Case Summary

In the Jahangirpuri area of Delhi, two Hindu youths, Anshu and Vimal, were brutally stabbed by a group of four Muslim men in broad daylight without any provocation. The Muslim youths also recorded a video in which they were seen boasting about the attack and killing the victims. The incident occurred on 4 January 2026, around 2:55 pm, in a narrow lane of the K Block area. The attack began when four Muslim youths, one identified as Ramzan Khan, approached the victims, Anshu and Vimal, and questioned them about whether they knew a person named Sahil. The victims denied knowing any such person, after which the attackers asked whether they lived in K Block, and then suddenly launched a violent attack on the victims without provocation. The attackers surrounded the victims and repeatedly stabbed them with knives in a relentless assault, even as they collapsed on the road, while a video of the incident was recorded by a local resident. Anshu sustained a stab injury to his right hand, while Vimal suffered multiple stab wounds to his left hand, lower back and right upper arm. Both were rushed to the hospital and referred to Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Hospital for further treatment, where their condition was closely monitored. Following the attack, a second video surfaced on social media showing the attackers boasting that they had killed two Hindu youths, thereby glorifying the violence. The video was posted from the account of Ramzan Khan. Subsequently, the police registered a case under provisions relating to an attempt to murder. As of the date of writing this report, the investigation was ongoing, and police launched a search operation to apprehend the accused.

Why it is Hate Crime ?

This case has been placed in the Undecided Database because, while the Hindu victims were brutally attacked without provocation by Muslim youths, the currently available information does not conclusively demonstrate that the attack was motivated primarily by anti-Hindu hostility or religious animosity. Furthermore, the accused also boasted about the attack on social media, that they had killed the victims, thereby glorifying the violence. While these elements are deeply concerning, the available facts do not currently establish a clear link between the attackers’ conduct and a targeted bias against Hindus based solely on their religion. The attack on Anshu and Vimal was sudden, unprovoked, and brutal. Two Hindu youths were surrounded and repeatedly stabbed in broad daylight by the Muslim youths. Furthermore, what makes this incident even more egregious was the fact that a video was posted in which the accused openly boasted about having killed the victims, thereby glorifying the violence and being proud of it, rather than expressing fear, remorse, or denial. This behaviour was random or incidental; it is part of a broader pattern where Muslims glorify violence against Hindus. ' There is a clear precedent in such cases where Muslim attackers who committed violence against Hindus not only committed the crime but also consciously publicised it and boasted about it, as an act of portraying dominance and ideological assertion. For example, in the Kanhaiya Lal murder case, the Muslim attackers filmed themselves justifying the killing of a Hindu tailor and framing it as religious retribution for the alleged blasphemy. Similarly, in the Umesh Kolhe murder case, the killing was linked to outrage over support for Nupur Sharma, and the Muslim attackers uploaded a video in which they celebrated the act after killing him. In each of these cases, post-crime glorification was not incidental; it was part of an ideological assertion meant to terrorise, assert dominance, and normalise violence against Hindus. The present case follows the same disturbing trajectory: unprovoked violence followed by celebration and glorification of the act. While the full motive has not yet been established, the act of boasting about killing Hindu youths cannot be viewed in isolation or dismissed as incidental, especially given the documented history of religiously motivated violence accompanied by public celebration and glorification. Furthermore, the broader context of the Jahangirpuri area is relevant to understanding the communal dynamics in the locality. The Jahangirpuri area has repeatedly surfaced as a centre of communal tension and religious hostility towards Hindus. During the 2022 Hanuman Jayanti violence, the area witnessed organised stone-pelting and attacks on Hindu religious processions, amidst chanting of Islamist slogans. Even in such cases, the violence was not spontaneous but rooted in entrenched religious animosity. Investigations and media reports highlighted the role of Muslim mobilisation, with figures such as Tahir Hussain, later accused in the larger Delhi riots conspiracy, being repeatedly cited in communal mobilisation and targeted violence against Hindus. Slogans, coordinated attacks, and targeted intimidation of Hindus during these riots underscored the deep-rooted communal animosity present in and around Jahangirpuri. Thus, the Jahangirpuri area has functioned as a hub of sustained anti-Hindu hostility, where Hindu religious processions, symbols, and individuals have repeatedly come under attack. This historical pattern is relevant because hate crimes do not occur in a vacuum; they often emerge from environments where hostility towards a particular community has already been normalised. However, despite these precedents and contextual indicators, the Hinduphobia Tracker follows a strict methodology and requires clear, demonstrable evidence of religious bias before categorising an incident as a confirmed hate crime. In this case, the immediate trigger of the attacks seems ambiguous. Additionally, at the time of writing this report, the police investigation was still ongoing regarding the motive. Therefore, due to the lack of conclusive evidence regarding the religious motive, this case would remain in the Undecided Database. Should further information or investigative findings emerge that indicate religious animosity, the case would be added in the hate crime database accordingly.
