Why it is Hate Crime ?
The cow is regarded as sacred in the Hindu religion. There have been numerous documented cases throughout history where non-Hindu individuals have slaughtered cows as an act intended to insult the Hindu faith. Such acts have also been used to forcibly convert Hindus, sometimes by compelling them to consume beef, and to desecrate temples. In many cases of cow slaughter, there is a high suspicion that religious animosity towards Hindus is a motivating factor. In the present case, given that the perpetrators are Muslims, there is a possibility that underlying religious motivations played a role. However, in the absence of concrete evidence indicating religious animosity, this incident is currently categorised as Undecided. If further details emerge indicating that the crime was carried out due to religious animosity, then it will be recategorised to the Hate Crime Database.
