Case Summary

In Mathura, Uttar Pradesh, multiple Hindu girls, including minors, were targeted and blackmailed for sexual exploitation by a Muslim youth named Imran, who pretended to be a Hindu to lure the girls. In a social media post, the accused boasted of trapping as many as 23 Hindu girls in the last two years. He also claimed that he had a personal target of trapping as many as 50 girls. Imran, son of Islam and a resident of Machhli Mohalla in Kotwali Police Station limits, introduced himself as a Hindu and targeted various Hindu girls by befriending them and gradually drawing them into a romantic relationship. He used to work as an auto driver and used to selectively pick up Hindu school and college girls, often giving them a free ride to gain their trust and an eventual romantic relationship. He used a Hindu alias to introduce himself to the victims. He also used to wear a Kalawa to further reaffirm his fake Hindu identity in front of his prey. After gaining their trust, he used to record their private videos and used them to blackmail them for sexual exploitation, threatening to upload the videos on social media. He used to make them do obscene acts and financially exploit them. Furthermore, he also uploaded pictures of a few girls on social media with inflammatory posts. Due to the efforts of local Hindu organisations, the accused was arrested by the police on June 8, 2025. According to the preliminary investigation and digital examination of his phone, it was revealed that approximately 23 girls had fallen victim to his actions, and he boasted of having a personal target of trapping 50 Hindu girls. There were also multiple videos of hate speech against Hindus found on his phone. As of the date of writing this report, the investigation was ongoing. Hinduphobia Tracker also spoke to complainant Vishnu Chauhan, who further stated that Imran, along with his Muslim friends, were running a racket of targeting Hindu girls. They also had a WhatsApp group in which they were sharing details about Hindu girls; thus, the full extent of his crime is yet to be revealed. Chauhan further confirmed that some of the victims he tried to contact were untraceable. Furthermore, the complainant had also revealed that the police were trying to suppress the case and had also deleted some of the evidence.

Why it is Hate Crime ?

This case has been added to the tracker under the primary category of: - Crimes against women in relationships and other sexual crimes. Within it, the tertiary category selected is: - Man pretends to be Hindu, with the tertiary category being: - Name changed, Pattern of targeting Hindu women and Wears symbols of Hinduism. When a non-Hindu man pretends to be a Hindu to deceive a Hindu woman into a relationship, the act is seen as triggered by malafide intentions. In some cases, the woman eventually accepts the man’s original religious identity and converts after the man’s identity is revealed. These cases could be argued as cases of religious brainwashing and a result of the pressure a woman feels after getting into a relationship with a man. The woman, it can be argued, also changed her religious identity because of the stigma she believes she might face if she chooses to walk out of a deceptive relationship. However, for the purpose of documenting hate crimes, the cases in this subcategory are limited to those where there is explicit violence aimed at religious conversion against the wishes of the victim (force-feeding beef, blackmailing with intimate videos, rape on refusal to convert, etc), or if the woman herself complains of the man’s religious deception. In such cases, it is established that the deception of the non-Hindu man had a specific aim of religious conversion or targeting of the victim due to her Hindu religious identity, therefore, making it a religiously motivated hate crime. The second sub-category selected here is:- Brainwashed and/or groomed, with the tertiary category being: - Rape and sexual assault/harassment. In our database, we have not added incidents where women have converted to another religion of their free will and no allegations of forced/involuntary conversion have been made. However, there are certain cases of conversion where the consent itself is a result of the brainwashing or grooming of a minor by the non-Hindu perpetrator trying to victimise a woman for her Hindu religious identity. The phenomenon of grooming points to non-Hindu perpetrators identifying their Hindu victims’ vulnerabilities and exploiting them over months and sometimes years, to extract the supposed ‘consent’ in order to convert their religion. In most cases of grooming, the victims are minors or the grooming started when the victim was a minor. In other cases of grooming, the non-Hindu perpetrator brainwashes and grooms a minor victim to extract their trust and then proceeds to rape them repeatedly with the intent of converting them to their faith. It is pertinent to understand here that when the victim is a minor, the ‘consent’ to convert or enter into a romantic relationship with an adult itself is redundant – addressed by POCSO. While every case of conversion of a minor and incidents of establishing a physical relationship with a minor by an adult is a crime, for the purpose of this database, a case would be considered a hate crime only if there is a distinct religious angle to the grooming. For example, in the UK, if a Hindu minor is targeted by Pakistani grooming gangs, it would be considered a hate crime because the victims are specifically targeted owing to their non-Muslim religious identity with the perpetrators being Muslim. In other cases, if a Hindu minor is brainwashed into entering a physical relationship with the non-Hindu adult perpetrator and the family alleges grooming/brainwashing of the minor to convert her religion, it would form a part of this database. If the victim is a Hindu adult, the case would form a part of this database only if the victim herself says that she was brainwashed/groomed to convert her religion. However, if the victim is deceased (murdered or otherwise), the case would form a part of this database if her family/friends provided testimony that the victim was brainwashed/groomed to convert her religion. Since these crimes have a distinct religious angle where the victim is being targeted owing to her Hindu religious identity, these cases are considered a hate crime. This case has been added to the tracker because multiple Hindu girls were targeted by a Muslim youth named Imran. The accused deliberately concealed his religious identity and posed as a Hindu to deceive Hindu girls, clearly selecting his victims based on their religious identity. By falsely presenting himself as Hindu, he sought to overcome the social and cultural barriers that might have otherwise led to immediate rejection. This deception was not random; it was by design and was foundational to his entire approach. The girls were not targeted randomly; they were chosen because they were Hindu. Concealing one's religious identity is a clear manifestation of bias and malicious intent towards the victim's religion. By concealing his true identity, he exploited the trust of various Hindu girls and targeted them under false pretences. This indicates a premeditated intent to manipulate them based on their religious background. In cases like these, the tactic of adopting a false Hindu identity to manipulate and "ensnare" a Hindu individual is not just an act of personal betrayal but can also be an expression of disdain or disregard for Hinduism and its customs that reflects a deeper animosity towards Hindus and their beliefs. Further, reports suggest that the accused wore a Kalawa (a sacred thread worn by Hindus) to reaffirm his false Hindu identity before his targets. In Hinduism, the Tilak and Kalawa hold deep religious, cultural, and spiritual significance. It symbolises protection, blessings, unity, and commitment to spiritual and ethical principles. Its use across various rituals and ceremonies underscores its importance in the Hindu way of life. By exploiting religious symbols and rituals sacred to Hindus, the Muslim accused not only betrayed the woman's trust but also showed a profound disrespect for her faith. The extent of his mindset becomes even clearer from his WhatsApp status, which openly stated his target as '50 girls'. This portrays his malicious and downright jihadist mindset, where the goal is not personal satisfaction but systematic targeting, humiliation, and exploitation of people belonging to the Hindu faith. It was a pattern of behaviour rooted in religious hostility, where Hindu women were not seen as individuals but as symbolic targets. It was about asserting religious superiority over Hinduism by targeting Hindu women. This was not just about sex, it was about using sexual exploitation as a form of religious warfare. Furthermore, photos and videos retrieved from his phone, which have been accessed by Hinduphobia Tracker, included not only obscene material but also images of self-harm and videos of hate speech against Hindus. This further proves his deranged mindset and his ideological animosity towards Hindus. The fact that some of the girls he had contact with were untraceable raises serious concerns regarding the safety of those girls and the possibility of further violence. This was not an isolated incident but part of a pattern rooted in religious animosity. The fact that he was running a racket, with his friends, of targeting Hindu girls points to that aspect. His actions serve as a modern expression of communal hostility, where the woman’s faith becomes both her vulnerability and the perpetrator’s motivation. Thus, this case has been added to the tracker. Disclaimer: In a social media post, the accused stated that he has targeted 23 girls in the last two years. Since the targeting of Hindu girls began two years ago, and Hinduphobia Tracker records date of incident based on when the victim’s ordeal began, and not when it was reported, we have selected an indicative date of June 7, 2023, as the date of incident and June 7, 2025, when the incident was reported by the media.
