Case Summary

In the Dilari area of Moradabad, multiple Hindu girls were converted and trafficked by a Muslim man. According to the complaint filed by the accused's wife, she got married to the accused, who was a resident of the Amroha district, seven years ago. After marriage, the woman came to know that her husband was involved in converting many Hindu girls in past and used to sell them. When she protested about this, she was beaten by the accused, and her in-laws started demanding dowry from her. Later, her husband divorced her and threw her out of the house. According to the woman, her husband is now living with a Hindu girl from the Kanshiram Nagar area. It has also been reported that the name of the Hindu girl was changed to Farha. The complaint further states that this is not an isolated instance and that the Muslim man has been systematically involved in targeting and converting Hindu girls by trapping them in a love trap, converting them to Islam and then selling them. As of the date of writing this report, a complaint was registered by the police, and the investigation was ongoing.

Why it is Hate Crime ?

This case has been added to the tracker under the primary category of: - Predatory proselytisation. Within it, the sub-category category selected is: - Proselytisation by grooming, brainwashing, manipulation or subtle indoctrination, with the tertiary category being: - Pattern of targeting Hindus. Religious brainwashing essentially means the often subtle and forcible indoctrination to induce someone to give up their religious beliefs to accept contrasting regimented ideas. Religious grooming or brainwashing also involves propaganda and manipulation. It involves the systematic effort, driven by religious malice and indoctrination, to persuade “non-believers’ to accept allegiance, command, or doctrine to and of a contrasting faith. Cases of such grooming or brainwashing are far more nuanced than direct threats, coercion, inducement and violence. In such cases, it is often seen that there is repeated, subtle and continual manipulation of the victim to induce disaffection towards their own faith and acceptance of the contrasting faith of the perpetrator. While subtle indoctrination is widely acknowledged as predatory, an element which is often understated in such conversions or the attempts of such conversion is the role of loyalty and trust which might develop between the perpetrator and the victim. Fiduciary relationships are often abused to affect such religious conversion. For example, an educator transmitting religious doctrine of a competing faith to a Hindu student. The Hindu student is likely to accept what the teacher is transmitting owing to existence of the fiduciary relationship. The exploitation of the fiduciary relationship to religiously indoctrinate victims would also be included in this category. Since the underlying animosity towards the victim’s faith forms the basis of predatory proselytization, such cases are considered religiously motivated hate crimes. This case has been added to the tracker because multiple Hindu girls were converted and trafficked by a Muslim man. He is currently living with another Hindu girl whose name has been changed to Farha, a strategic act which is designed to disconnect her from her Hindu identity and cultural roots. Forcing a Hindu woman to change her name and replace it with an Islamic name is an attempt at alienating her from her original faith, thus making her future conversion easier and more permanent. Most of such conversions are against the will of the victim. In a few cases, even when such conversions and name changes may appear consensual on the surface, the underlying context often reveals psychological grooming, subtle coercion, and trust-based manipulation. These are classic tactics used in predatory proselytisation, where emotional influence, subtle indoctrination, and trust-building are exploited to turn someone away from their faith. Furthermore, as stated by the accused's wife, he was involved in the conversion and trafficking of multiple Hindu girls. So, essentially, it was not an isolated incident but a systematic effort to religiously profile Hindu women and target them. His actions stemmed from inherent hostility towards the victim's professed faith since Abrahamic faiths believe that any non-adherent to the faith is subject to being dehumanised till they convert. Thus, he converted and trafficked many Hindu girls not because of personal enmity, but because of religious hostility towards the Hindu faith. Since such predatory actions stem from doctrinal animosity towards the Hindu faith and its adherents, this case is being documented as a religiously motivated hate crime. Disclaimer: As the victim’s statement is not available in this case, nor are there specific details regarding when the accused began targeting Hindu girls, we have used January 1, 2018, as an indicative date. This date marks the approximate beginning of the accused’s marriage, which happened 7 years ago, as mentioned in the reports. Based on his wife’s statement, he was targeting Hindu girls even before the marriage took place. While media coverage of the case emerged on June 7, 2025, the Hinduphobia Tracker documents incidents based on when the victim’s suffering began, not when it was reported.
