Case Summary
A minor Dalit Hindu girl was raped and murdered by a Muslim man in Raghabpur village in the North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal. The girl went missing from her house at around 9:30 p.m. on that fateful night. The lifeless body of the victim was found hanging from a tree, just four inches above the ground. The incident created outrage in the area, which is located about 10 kilometres from the India-Bangladesh border. The primary accused in the case was identified as Sheikh Illiyas Mondal. He committed the crime along with two of his accomplices. The victim belonged to the Scheduled Caste (Dalit) community.
