Case Summary
A 6-year-old tribal Hindu girl was brutally raped, sodomised and murdered by a 42-year-old Muslim man named Razak Khan in the Valsad district of Gujarat. According to reports, on 23rd October 2023, the victim left her home in Dungra Faliya to go to her maternal grandfather’s workplace. At around 11 a.m., she went missing, though her family tried to search for her, but to no avail. Subsequently, her family reported the matter to the police that evening. The next day, her body was found in the bushes near a creek. A forensic postmortem at New Civil Hospital, Surat, confirmed that she had been raped, sodomized, and strangled to death. The police began examining CCTV footage of the surrounding areas and saw the accused, Razak Khan, roaming around with the victim. After a two-day search, the police identified and arrested the accused on 25 October 2023. The police conducted a medical examination of the accused, and samples of the accused and the victim were sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory in Surat for DNA profiling. During the investigation, it was revealed that the accused, a father of three, had been luring the victim daily, for six days before the crime, with chocolates and biscuits. CCTV footage also showed Khan calmly going to a nearby stall to drink tea and smoke a cigarette after committing the crime. A 700-page chargesheet was filed within 19 days. The prosecution presented 67 witnesses and various scientific evidence. On 4th December 2025, Additional Sessions Judge H N Vakil convicted Razaak Khan on charges of murder, rape, rape of a girl under 12 years, sodomy, and offences under the POCSO Act, and sentenced him to death for each of these sections. The court also ordered compensation of Rs 17 lakh to be paid to the victim’s family.
