Case Summary
In West Champaran, Bihar, a minor Hindu girl was deceived, sexually exploited and forcibly converted to Islam by a Muslim man named Mohammad Ajmullah Ali. The accused made her wear a burqa and was planning to take her to Nepal to evade police action. According to reports, the victim came into contact with the accused through social media. The accused gradually manipulated her into a fabricated romantic relationship under the false promise of marriage. On 13 November 2025, the accused took her away from her home to Gurugram, Haryana, by promising marriage and employment. During this time, he repeatedly sexually exploited her under the guise of marriage and forced her to convert to Islam. He pressured her to learn Islamic practices and made her wear a burqa. When the victim's family filed an FIR, the accused attempted to flee with her to Nepal to evade the police. At the Maitri Bridge in Raxaul, the SSB Anti-Human Trafficking Unit and the Prayas Juvenile Aid Centre intercepted them during border surveillance. The accused attempted to mislead the officers by introducing the girl as “Salima Begum” but was found suspicious and was taken into custody for interrogation. It was revealed that the minor victim was coerced into conversion, sexually exploited in Gurugram, and disguised in a burqa to hide her identity during the escape attempt. Investigators also noted the accused's previous employment in Dubai, which raised concerns that the entire sequence of events was executed with deliberate planning. Following interrogation, both were handed over to Haraiya Police Station in Raxaul for further legal proceedings.

Making her wear a burqa was a symbolic erasure of her previous Hindu identity by imposing an Islamic identity on her. Such manipulation reflects the deeper intent to sever the victim’s ties with her community and to normalise her new identity as a Muslim. It was an attempt to impose an Islamic lifestyle upon her. It was not merely about clothing; it symbolised the effort to overwrite her Hindu identity and forcibly assimilate her into practices of the Islamic faith. This again glaringly demonstrates the religiously motivated nature of the crime. Such actions stem from inherent hostility towards the victim's professed faith since Abrahamic faiths believe that any non-adherent to the faith is subject to being dehumanised till, they convert. Therefore, religious conversions, even of minors, are often seen as a badge of honour, totally disregarding the methods used to achieve it.
