Dalit Hindu wedding attacked, guests brutally assaulted and abused with casteist slurs by Muslim mob over playing DJ
Case Summary
In Gurjar Chowk, Adarsh Nagar, Ballabhgarh, in the Faridabad district of Haryana, a Dalit Hindu wedding celebration was attacked by a mob of around 40 to 50 Muslims. The accused created a disturbance over the playing of a DJ, assaulted the guests, and subjected them to several casteist slurs. According to media reports, on 2nd December 2025, during the wedding celebration, the Muslim mob entered the event and demanded that the DJ's music be stopped. This led to a dispute, which escalated when the mob brutally assaulted the Hindu victims with sticks, rods, and swords. The attackers also directed numerous abusive and caste-based slurs at the Hindu Dalits. One female guest at the wedding stated, "The Muslims were abusing us with a lot of offensive and casteist words. They said 'We will not allow Dalits' wedding to take place'." Shivam, a resident of Subhash Colony Hari Vihar, was hosting an engagement ceremony as part of the wedding celebrations. Witnessing the attack, a stampede broke out among the guests, who fled in panic. Even the Halwais (caterers) were also assaulted during the incident. Food utensils were thrown around, and the attackers injured three or four people present at the ceremony. They also robbed money and jewellery of the guests present at the scene. Following the attack, witnesses informed the police. Upon receiving this information, police inspected the scene, but the attackers had fled before their arrival. The injured were taken to the civil hospital. The victim, Shivam, lodged a complaint at the Adarsh Nagar Police Station. The following morning, Gau Raksha Bajrang Dal’s president, Bittu Bajrangi, visited the hospital to meet the injured. Station House Officer Manoj Kumar of Adarsh Nagar Police Station stated that an investigation had begun and a case was being registered.

Why it is Hate Crime ?
This case is being added to the tracker under the primary category- Attack not resulting in death. The subcategory selected is- Communal Clash/ Attack. Communal clash is a form of collective violence that involves clashes between groups belonging to different religious identities. For a communal clash between Hindus and non-Hindus to qualify as a religiously motivated hate crime, the trigger of the violence itself would have to be anti-Hindu in essence. For example, if there is a Hindu religious procession that comes under attack from a non-Hindu mob and after the initial attack, Hindus retaliate in self-defence, leading to a communal clash between the two religious communities. While at a later stage, both communities are involved in the clash/violence, the initial trigger of the violence was by the non-Hindu mob against the Hindus and therefore, it could safely be termed as an anti-Hindu violence. Further, the trigger would also have to be religiously motivated. In the cited example, the attack by the non-Hindu mob was against religious processions and therefore, can be concluded to be religiously motivated. In some cases, the trigger may be non-religious, however, it develops into religious violence against Hindus at a later stage. In such cases too, the foundational animosity towards Hindus becomes the motivating factor of the crime and therefore, it would be classified as a religiously motivated hate crime against Hindus under this category. Another primary category selected is- Hate Speech against Hindus. The subcategory selected is- Anti-Hindu slurs, mocking faith. Anti-Hindu slurs and the deliberate mocking of the Hindu faith owing to religious animosity involve the usage of derogatory terms, stereotypes, or offensive references to religious practices, symbols, or figures. One of the common anti-Hindu slurs used against Hindus is “cow-worshipper” and “cow piss drinker”. The intention of using this term is to demean and mock Hindus as a group and their religious beliefs since Hindus consider the cow holy. Additionally, some symbols and the slurs attached to them have a historical context that exacerbates the insult, hate, stereotyping, dehumanisation and oppression against Hindus. Cow worship has been used for centuries to denigrate Hindus, insult their faith and oppress Hindus specifically as a religious group. There has been overwhelming documentation about how cow slaughter has been used to persecute Hindus with cow meat being thrown in temples and places of worship. There has also been overwhelming documentation where cow meat (beef) has been force-fed to Hindus to either forcefully convert them to Islam or denigrate their faith. Apart from cow worship, the Swastika – which holds deep religious significance for the Hindus – has also been misinterpreted and distorted to use as a slur against Hindus. Similarly, the worship of the Shivling has been used by supremacist ideologies and religions to denigrate Hindus owing to religious animosity. Such slurs and denigration stem out of inherent animosity and hate towards Hindus and their faith, therefore, it is categorised as hate speech targeted at Hindus specifically owing to their religious identity. This incident unmistakably represents communal violence, as the Hindu wedding procession was deliberately singled out for a large-scale attack by a coordinated Muslim mob. The brutal violent assault and the use of casteist abuses on the Hindu guests point to a premeditated expression of religious enmity. The attackers deliberately targeted this religious and cultural event, violating the sanctity of the wedding celebration and aiming to intimidate the Hindu community. Such brutality cannot be a mere social disturbance; it reflects a planned communal assault steeped in religious animosity towards Hindus. The organised nature of this attack is made clear by the number of assailants involved, with approximately 50 individuals armed with weapons carrying out the violence. This shows it was no spontaneous occurrence, but a coordinated effort to terrorise and subjugate the Hindu community in that area. The verbal abuse, theft, and physical assault were employed as tools of religious intimidation, disrupting the cultural and social practices of the Hindu community, which are integral to their faith and identity. This act was deliberately designed to instil fear and assert dominance, reflecting a broader pattern of religiously motivated hostility against Hindus. This makes it a clear instance of communal attack targeting the Hindu community and their faith. Furthermore, the victims were also subjected to casteist slurs, underscoring the religiously motivated nature of the crime. Here, some may argue that a caste-specific slur is aimed at the victims' micro identity of belonging to the Dalit section of the Hindu community and not their Hindu identity itself. However, as far as Abrahamic religions are concerned, the micro identities of caste, region, and language are secondary. It is the religious identity that drives the animosity of the perpetrators against the Hindu victims. Therefore, in this case, even though caste-based abuses were hurled, the underlying hatred was directed at Hinduism and Hindus. Hence, the use of casteist slurs alongside physical violence confirms this as a religiously motivated hate crime against the Hindu victim. The Muslim attackers said that "We will not allow Dalits' weddings to take place." This statement directly ties the violence to the victims' identity, expressing an intent to prevent the practice of a social and religious ritual (a wedding celebration) based on their Hindu identity. Use of such slurs and abuses amounts to clear expressions of hatred for Hinduism and the Hindu community. This violent overreach stems from an Islamic supremacist ideology within Muslim extremist circles, which views Hindus as socially and religiously inferior. This toxic belief breeds contempt and aggression, especially when Hindus resist submission or refuse to yield in disputes. The readiness to use violence exposes the continuing threat Hindu communities face, as these incidents are not isolated or spontaneous but part of an ongoing pattern of religiously motivated violence. Therefore, this case is being added to the hate crime database of the Hinduphobia Tracker. Disclaimer: For the purpose of structured crime documentation, it is essential to note that media reports covering this incident did not provide an exact, total count of victims. The reporting highlighted Shivam, who hosted the wedding/engagement ceremony, and generally stated that three or four other people sustained injuries as a direct result of the attack. Therefore, for documenting this incident in the tracker, we are using a conservative estimate and recording the victim count as '5'.
