Why it is Hate Crime ?
This case has been added to the 'Undecided' database due to the absence of any clearly reported religious motive at this stage. Although it has been seen many times that Hindu girls are religiously profiled, targeted and harassed by the Muslim perpetrators for sexual exploitation and/or religious conversion, due to underlying religious animosity towards Hindus and Hinduism. However, it remains entirely possible that the harassment leading to the victim's suicide was opportunistic in nature, where the Hindu girl was simply accessible to the Muslim perpetrator. Meanwhile, it could also be argued that for a Muslim perpetrator, a Muslim girl would likely be more accessible than a Hindu girl. The fact that the perpetrator specifically targeted the Hindu girl could suggest religious profiling of the victim. Although the father's testimony cannot be understated, the father also did not point towards a religious motive behind the crime. Nevertheless, such conclusions remain speculative, as the current details of this case do not provide clear evidence of religious motivations. Additionally, there was no suicide note found, and the victim's family also did not indicate a religious motive. Since there is no conclusive evidence of religious motivation, this case is being added to the Undecided Database. If further information emerges that indicates that this case was motivated by religious animosity, then it would be categorised under the hate crime database.
