Young Hindu woman strangled by Muslim live-in-partner in Bikaner over social media dispute

Case Summary
In Bikaner, Rajasthan, a 20-year-old Hindu woman named Kashish Kumari was lured away from her family and then killed by a Muslim man named Kalu Khan. The murderer was the live-in partner of the deceased victim. As per reports, the deceased Kashish became friends with Kalu Khan on social media. The accused, Kalu Khan, first expressed love for Kashish. He then lured her away from her family and started living with her. Both lived together for the last 2 years. The accused did not like Kashish being active on social media. Many times, Kalu tried to stop Kashish from using social media, but she did not listen. After which, he strangled Kashish to death. After the murder, Kalu Khan went into hiding. The police were informed of the incident, and they launched an investigation. The accused hid in the fields near the dunes, disguising himself as a shepherd. Police officers, also disguised, searched for Kalu and ultimately arrested him.
Why it is Hate Crime ?
In this case, the immediate cause of the crime appears to be non-religious, that is, disagreement on the use of social media. However, the extreme violence inflicted on the Hindu victim, resulting in her death, raises serious concerns about possible premeditation and deeper religious motives behind the attack. There has been a pattern of Hindu women being selectively targeted by Muslim men for the underlying purposes of religious conversion and sexual exploitation. On many occasions, when Hindu women refuse to comply with the demands of the Muslim perpetrator, they are killed. The disproportionate brutality suggests that the Muslim perpetrator may have harboured deep-seated animosity towards the victim, potentially driven by religious bias or hatred. Such excessive violence in response to a minor disagreement often reflects underlying religious tensions. However, as there are currently no explicit indicators of religious motivation in this case, nor has the police or the victim's family suggested such a motive, therefore, the case remains classified as ‘Undecided’ in the database. If further evidence emerges confirming that the murder was religiously motivated, the case will be reclassified accordingly within the hate crime database.
