Six arrested in Bharuch for stealing, slaughtering and consuming pregnant cow
Case Summary
In Gujarat's Bharuch district, six individuals were arrested for stealing, slaughtering, and consuming a pregnant cow, officials reported on November 4. The incident occurred on October 31, during Diwali, when Kamlesh Ahir, the cow's owner, discovered the animal missing after tying it near his home in Eksaal village. While searching, Kamlesh and his father received information that individuals from a neighbouring village had taken the cow. Upon visiting the village, they found animal remains, which were handed over to the police. The suspects, identified as Sarfaraz Mansuri, Wasim Mansuri, Mubarak Mansuri, Soheb Mansuri, Rizwan Mansuri, and Ajay Rathod, were arrested following Kamlesh’s complaint. Police stated that the accused had a history of theft, and their motive in this case was to slaughter and consume the cow's meat. The accused were charged under the Bharatiya Nyay Sanghita, the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, and the Gujarat Animal Preservation Act.
Why it is Hate Crime ?
The cow is considered sacred in the Hindu religion. Often, cows are slaughtered by non-Hindu perpetrators as a mark of insult to the Hindu faith. There have been several documented cases throughout history where cow slaughter is used as a method to insult the Hindu faith, convert Hindus (by force-feeding beef) and desecrate temples. In all cases of cow slaughter, there is a suspicion of religious animosity against Hindus working as a motivating factor, however, in the absence of any concrete indication, this case is being categorized as 'undecided'. If more details emerge, it would be added to the hate crime database.
