Muslim men arrested for smuggling cows to slaughter, two cows were found tightly stuffed inside a vehicle

Case Summary
Two cow smugglers were arrested in Haryana's Palwal district, while one managed to escape under the cover of darkness. Members of the Gau Raksha Dal, in coordination with the Hathin police, intercepted the smugglers transporting cows for slaughter. A case was registered against the culprits based on a complaint by Devendra, a Gau Raksha Dal member, and efforts to locate the third suspect are underway. Acting on a tip-off, the Gau Raksha Dal and police set up a blockade on the road between Khedli Jita and Kiranj. According to the complaint, the suspects—Vakil, Rashid, and Kamel from Utawad village—were transporting cattle to Rajasthan. When the smugglers' vehicle was spotted, the driver sped up to evade capture. During the chase, the vehicle collided with a roadside tree, forcing the suspects to flee on foot. With the help of the police, Vakil and Rashid were apprehended on the spot, but Kamel escaped. Both arrested smugglers sustained minor injuries while attempting to flee. Upon inspection of the vehicle, two cows were found tightly stuffed inside. The recovered cattle were sent to a local Gaushala for care.
Why it is Hate Crime ?
The cow is considered sacred in the Hindu religion. Often, cows are slaughtered by non-Hindu perpetrators as a mark of insult to the Hindu faith. There have been several documented cases throughout history where cow slaughter is used as a method to insult the Hindu faith, convert Hindus (by force-feeding beef) and desecrate temples. In all cases of cow slaughter, there is a suspicion of religious animosity against Hindus working as a motivating factor, however, in the absence of any concrete indication, this case is being categorised as 'undecided'. If more details emerge, it would be added to the hate crime database.
