Hindu girl missing, father says was brainwashed and forced to convert by a Muslim man and his female accomplice

Case Summary
An 18-year-old Hindu girl went missing under suspicious circumstances in a village in Barabanki’s Asandra police station area. The girl’s father reported that a Muslim man and his female accomplice brainwashed and kidnapped his daughter, also pressuring her to convert to Islam. The incident occurred in the Surajpur area. The girl, who was attending a computer course at Deviganj Chauraha, suddenly disappeared from home. Her family searched extensively but found no trace of her. Unable to locate her, the girl’s father approached the Asandra police station and filed a complaint. In his complaint, he named a Muslim youth and his accomplice for influencing his daughter and taking her away. He also expressed fears that they might have coerced her into religious conversion. Based on the complaint, police registered a case against the youth and his accomplice under serious legal sections. Inspector Jitendra Pratap Singh confirmed that an investigation had begun.
Why it is Hate Crime ?
This case has been added to the primary category "Predatory Proselytisation" under the subcategory 'Proselytisation by grooming, brainwashing, manipulation or subtle indoctrination'. The tertiary category selected in the case is 'family claims grooming'. Religious brainwashing essentially means the often subtle and forcible indoctrination to induce someone to give up their religious beliefs to accept contrasting regimented ideas. Religious grooming or brainwashing also involves propaganda and manipulation. It involves the systematic effort, driven by religious malice and indoctrination, to persuade “non-believers’ to accept allegiance, command, or doctrine to and of a contrasting faith. Cases of such grooming or brainwashing are far more nuanced than direct threats, coercion, inducement and violence. In such cases, it is often seen that there is repeated, subtle and continual manipulation of the victim to induce disaffection towards their own faith and acceptance of the contrasting faith of the perpetrator. While subtle indoctrination is widely acknowledged as predatory, an element which is often understated in such conversions or the attempts of such conversion is the role of loyalty and trust which might develop between the perpetrator and the victim. Fiduciary relationships are often abused to affect such religious conversion. For example, an educator transmitting religious doctrine of a competing faith to a Hindu student. The Hindu student is likely to accept what the teacher is transmitting owing to existence of the fiduciary relationship. The exploitation of the fiduciary relationship to religiously indoctrinate victims would also be included in this category. Since the underlying animosity towards the victim’s faith forms the basis of predatory proselytization, such cases are considered religiously motivated hate crimes. In this case, a young girl went mysteriously missing and was not found despite the best efforts of the parents. The father categorically said that the girl had been brainwashed and lured by a Muslim man and a woman accomplice of his. The flip side of this case is that it is possible that the woman had eloped out of her own free will, converted out of her own free will and ran away from home. However, so far, there is no indication that the woman was in a relationship with the Muslim man. The information available is that the woman had suddenly disappeared. Further, the father's allegation does not talk about a Muslim man trapping her. The father said that a Muslim man and his female accomplice had brainwashed the woman, made her run away and converted her to Islam. Therefore, based on the statement of the father, this case is being documented as a religiously motivated hate crime.
