Hindu youth stabbed to death by Muslim men following altercation over betting money

Case Summary
Tapan Parmar, the son of a former BJP municipal councillor, was brutally murdered inside the Sir Sayajirao General Hospital (SSG Hospital) campus in Gujarat’s Vadodara. The incident happened in the presence of police officers as per the victim’s father. The accused persons were identified as Babar Pathan, Mehboob, Wasim, and others. Tapan, son of Ramesh Parmar, and his friend Mitesh Rajput had gone to the SSG Hospital to inquire about the health and treatment of one of their friends Vikram Parmar, who had allegedly been stabbed by history-sheeter, Babar Pathan, during a fight in the Nagarwada area. After checking on Vikram, Tapan and Mitesh went to the hospital canteen. Soon after, Pathan and his associates arrived at the scene and stabbed Tapan multiple times, resulting in his death. Vadodara Joint Commissioner of Police Manoj Ninama confirmed that the brawl between the groups had originated at Mehtawadi in Nagarwada, where Wasim, Vikram, and another individual, Dharmesh Patel, were injured. It started over the recovery of gambling money, during which Babar’s aide Wasim Mansuri was injured. Later, Babar and his aides decided to assault (Vikram) to avenge the attack on Wasim. Babar later approached the Karelibaug police station to file an FIR against the other group. He, however, said, “While the police were in the process of taking the complaint, Babar said that he was feeling dizzy and nauseated as he was injured. The police officer asked him to come to SSG for a check-up. At SSG, he went to the emergency ward to see Wasim, where his wife Shabnam instigated him. Then, he walked out towards the canteen where he saw Tapan and stabbed him. A week after the murder, 10 police officers were suspended for dereliction of duty.
