Police launches probe after sack full of meat was found near Shahjahanpur temple
Case Summary
In Uttar Pradesh's Shahjahanpur area, a sack containing meat remains was discovered near a temple on July 7, sparking protests from local villagers and members of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP). Rajesh Awasthi, a VHP leader, received information about the incident and led protests by blocking roads. The Shahjahanpur Police formed three teams to investigate the matter, registering a case against unidentified individuals. Superintendent of Police Ashok Kumar Meena stated that the sack was found near the temple and suggested possibilities including accidental disposal or deliberate disturbance of communal harmony. The police are reviewing CCTV footage and have taken action against the outpost in charge for laxity in duty. Soon, Muslim man Waseem was arrested in the case. He told police that he gets Rs 20 per sack to dispose animal remains. One sack fell and he wasn't aware. He had come back to fetch the lost sack when he realised that it fell, but protests had started so he returned home.
Why it is Hate Crime ?
In this case, there is a strong suspicion that the Muslim man, Waseem, disposed a sack full of meat remains near a temple on purpose. After he was arrested, he claimed that the sack had fell and he realised only later. When he came to fetch it, he realised the protests had already started. It would appear to be a coincidence that sack of meat accidentally fell in front of a Temple. However, circumstantially, since Waseem was indeed in the profession of disposing meat remains, it is entirely possible that he was telling the truth and the sack indeed fell by mistake. For that reason, this case is being added to the undecided database.
