Case Summary

A differently-abled Hindu woman was brutally beheaded in broad daylight by a Muslim man in Tezpur, Assam, following a failed molestation attempt. The victim, who was deaf and mute, was adopted by Biren Das, owner of a roadside hotel located in the Poruwa Chariali area of Tezpur. She used to help around the business and knew the perpetrator as a regular customer. The incident occurred on October 15th 2025, around 8:30 AM. The Hindu woman was cleaning dishes behind the hotel when the Muslim man, Abed Ali, approached the woman and tried to drag her away with the intention of sexually assaulting her. When the woman resisted and tried to flee, the accused panicked and chased her down to silence her. He attacked the woman with an axe, near a temple, beheading her on the spot. The temple priest saw the attack and informed Biren Das, and both caught the accused and tied him before handing him over to the Police. At the time of writing this report, the perpetrator was taken into custody, and an investigation had been launched.

Why it is Hate Crime ?

Here, the accused Abed Ali, a Muslim man, targeted the differently-abled Hindu woman with the intention of sexual exploitation, and when faced with resistance, beheaded her in broad daylight. This act was not a simple crime of passion, but was an expression of demonic savagery. There is considerable documentation of cases where Muslim men have shown exceptional brutality against Hindu women due to their preconceived hatred towards Hinduism, or instances where Muslim men specifically sought Hindu women to be the object of their sadistic tendencies. But here, the act of violence doesn’t provide a clear indication of religious bias. This could be a case of opportunistic exploitation gone wrong, which doesn't have any religious motivation.
