Hindus should be killed like Jews’: Social media influencer Arif Nashriyaat echoes the Hamas calls for a ‘Global Jihad’
Hate speech against Hindus
Call for genocide/violence against Hindus/specific sects of Hindus

Case Summary

The conflict between Palestine and Israel, marked by Hamas’s brutal massacre of civilians, found support among Islamists globally, including in India. Extremists in India have celebrated the violence in Israel and incited similar atrocities against Hindus. Arif Nashriyaat, a Rajasthan-based influencer with significant social media followings, has actively propagated anti-Hindu rhetoric. Through his posts, Nashriyaat glorifies jihad, spreads misinformation, and denigrates non-Muslims, calling for violence and framing Hindus and political parties like BJP and Congress as adversaries of Islam. He justified the massacre in Israel, expressed joy over the deaths of civilians, and encouraged violence in India. Nashriyaat frequently references Islamic mythology to justify his views, vilifies non-Muslims, and promotes regressive practices. His content, laden with Hinduphobia and radicalism, garners widespread support among his followers. Despite his hate-filled messages, the Congress-led government has taken no action against him, raising concerns about political leniency toward such radical elements.

Why it is Hate Crime ?

This case qualifies as a religiously motivated hate crime under the category of Hate speech against Hindus. Under this, the first sub-category selected is- Call for genocide/violence against Hindus/specific sects of Hindus. Hate speech is defined as any speech, gesture, conduct, writing, or display that is prejudicial against a specific individual and/or group of people, which is leading to or may lead to violence, prejudicial action or hate against that individual and/or group. Often, animosity against a specific panth/sampradaya/group of Hindus or a specific ideology they hold manifests itself into hate speech and calls for genocide/violence against that specific section of Hindus. For example, it has often been seen that those who hold animosity against the Hindu faith use specific sects/sampradaya/pant of Hindus as a proxy to express hate against Hindus as a whole. It has been seen that the word ‘Hindutva’ has been used to call for violence against those who say they believe in ‘Hindutva’. It is observed that ‘Hindutva’ is only used as a proxy to call for violence against Hindus as a whole, as seen in the Dismantling Global Hindutva conference where speakers admitted that ‘Hindutva’ cannot be eradicated till ‘Hinduism’ is eradicated. The eradication of an entire faith, in turn, is a genocidal call against the entire community that practices that faith. Further, it is also observed that violence against a specific section of Hindus is made, justifying these calls by weaving exaggerated tales of historical injustices. Often, those who hold animosity towards Hindus and their faith attempt to make their animosity more palatable by justifying their hate for a specific section, claiming that they are against that particular section because of their faith in the broader community and the religion they process. Such calls for violence against specific sections of Hindus, as mentioned, is a proxy for their animosity against the entire community and the faith they profess, and therefore, would be considered hate speech under this category. Arif Nashriyaat’s rhetoric explicitly calls for violence against Hindus and glorifies acts of terror, both directly and indirectly. By expressing approval of the atrocities committed in Israel by Hamas and linking it to Hindus in India, Nashriyaat is not only celebrating violence but also calling for similar acts of brutality against Hindus. His statements, such as “...massacred like dogs by Palestinian Muslims” and “...end the oppressors living in India soon,” are clear incitements to violence and genocidal intent against Hindus. By framing Hindus as "oppressors" and equating them with enemies of Islam from history, Nashriyaat constructs a narrative of victimhood and retribution, justifying violence against them. His repeated references to jihad, historical figures of Islamic conquest, and the glorification of acts of terror as a form of resistance further reinforce his call for genocidal violence. Such expressions of hatred, glorification of violence, and incitement to genocide are rooted in an intrinsic hostility towards the Hindu community and its beliefs and this is why, this case qualifies as a hate crime and has been added to the tracker.
