Case Summary
In Udham Singh Nagar district of Uttarakhand, a five-year-old Hindu girl was abducted and raped by a man named Shavez, an e-rickshaw driver. Shavez lured the child under the pretence of taking her for a ride and then assaulted her in a nearby sugarcane field. On the day of the incident, the child’s mother had gone out for labor work, leaving her daughter at home. During that time, Shavez spotted the girl playing outside her house. He enticed her onto his e-rickshaw with the promise of a ride and drove her a short distance away before stopping near the fields. There, he forcibly dragged the child into the sugarcane fields and committed the assault. The child’s screams drew the attention of local villagers, who immediately rushed towards the field. Sensing danger, Shavez abandoned his e-rickshaw and fled the scene. The villagers informed the police, following which Pulbhata police station officers, led by Station House Officer Kamlesh Bhatt, reached the location. The police seized the accused’s e-rickshaw and initiated an intensive search operation. The victim’s mother filed a written complaint, on the basis of which police registered a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The incident left the village outraged, leading to police deployment in the area to prevent any flare-up. Meanwhile, Shavez and members of his family absconded soon after the crime. Circle Officer Om Prakash Sharma assured that every possible effort is being made to trace and arrest Shavez at the earliest.
