Case Summary

In Udham Singh Nagar, Uttarakhand, a 14-year-old Hindu girl was lured and kidnapped by a Muslim man named Danish Ali. According to media reports, in April 2025, the accused, Danish Ali, aged 21, kidnapped the 14-year-old Hindu girl from Udham Singh Nagar. The incident came to light when Kripal Singh, the father of the victim, lodged a written complaint on 28th April 2025 regarding the disappearance of his minor daughter from their home. Given the serious nature of the complaint, a case was immediately registered under Section 140(3) of the BNS. During the police investigation, it was revealed that the minor girl was abducted by Danish Ali. The police acted swiftly under the direction of SSP Manikant Mishra, who formed four special teams to investigate the case. The police initiated a surveillance, with the SOG (Special Operations Group) and cyber teams. The Rudrapur MLA, Shiv Arora and members of the Vishva Hindu Parishad staged a protest regarding this matter. They demanded that the police act swiftly and arrest the accused. In the initial stages of the investigation, the teams examined footage from approximately 80 CCTV cameras. Additionally, call detail records of around 75 mobile numbers linked to suspects, the kidnapped girl, and her family members were thoroughly checked. A few individuals whom the police considered suspicious were also questioned. The cyber cell conducted a thorough investigation of the accused's and the victim’s Snapchat, Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, email IDs, and Aadhaar card numbers to find out information regarding the possible whereabouts of the accused. Based on this intelligence, the pre-formed police teams began raiding the suspected hideouts of the accused. In addition to various districts within Uttarakhand, continuous raids were conducted in several states, including Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Haryana, Hyderabad, Chennai, Bengaluru, and Madhya Pradesh. On 26th May 2025, the police team finally arrested Danish Ali and safely recovered the abducted minor girl. The accused, Danish Ali, was arrested under Sections 137(2), 84, 64(2) BNS and Sections 5/6 of the POCSO Act. According to the police sources, while they were searching for Danish Ali, who as an adult, had abducted a minor girl, he attempted to seek relief from the High Court. However, he was apprehended before he could do so. SSP Manikant Mishra announced a cash reward of 10,000 rupees for SHO Kelakheda and his team for their efficient work. Additionally, a cash reward of 5,000 rupees was also given to the cybercrime department.

Why it is Hate Crime ?

In this case, a minor Hindu girl was lured and abducted by a Muslim man. This could potentially be a crime motivated by religious profiling, as it has been observed that in many cases, Muslim perpetrators target Hindu girls due to inherent animosity towards Hindus, particularly minor Hindu girls. It could also be argued that for a Muslim perpetrator, a Muslim girl would likely be more accessible than a Hindu girl. The fact that the perpetrator specifically targeted the Hindu girl suggests religious profiling of the victim. However, it is equally possible that the crime was one of opportunity, where the Hindu girl was simply accessible to the Muslim perpetrator. It is also important to note here that the victim in this case is a minor, thus making any supposed "consent" from her side legally invalid under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. Nevertheless, this remains speculative, as the news report, as of now, provides no clear indication of religious motivations. Moreover, the victim's family hasn't made any statements suggesting that the crime was religiously motivated. For this reason, the case has been added to the 'Undecided' database. If further information emerges that hints towards a religiously motivated crime, then it would be reclassified and included under the Hate Crime database.
