Cow remains found, including head and skins, on the banks of Bhakra river in Bareilly

Case Summary
In the Fatehganj West area of Bareilly district, Uttar Pradesh, remains of over a dozen cows, including heads and skins, were found. The incident came to light when the remains of around a dozen cows, including their heads and skins, were discovered on the banks of the Bhakra River near the Dhaneta railway gate. Activists from Hindu organisations stated that how the remains were found indicates that the cows were slaughtered at night and the rest of their body parts taken away. The protestors gathered in large numbers and demanded strict legal action against the perpetrators. As of the date of writing this report, the police stated that they have not received any complaint and they would start the investigation as soon as they get one.
Why it is Hate Crime ?
The cow is considered sacred in the Hindu religion. Often, cows are slaughtered by non-Hindu perpetrators as a mark of insult to the Hindu faith. There have been several documented cases throughout history where cow slaughter is used as a method to insult the Hindu faith, convert Hindus (by force-feeding beef) and desecrate temples. In all cases of cow slaughter, there is a suspicion of religious animosity against Hindus working as a motivating factor, however, in the absence of any concrete indication, this case is being categorised as Undecided. If more details emerge, it would be added to the Hate Crime Database.
