Hindu deities insulted: inflammatory video mocking and insulting Lord Ram uploaded on social media

Case Summary
A derogatory video depicting Dr Ambedkar beating Lord Ram was posted on social media by a man named Arun Jaitley, causing an uproar among Hindus. As per media reports, the perpetrator was a resident of the Bilsanda area of Pilibhit, Uttar Pradesh. The inflammatory video was uploaded on Facebook, which displayed Dr Ambedkar beating Lord Ram. Following this incident, members of the Hindu Yuva Vahini went to the Bilsanda police station to file a complaint against the perpetrator. Gaurav, the district president of the Hindu Yuva Vahini, stated that a complaint had been lodged against the accused, emphasising that the video portrayed Lord Ram in a derogatory manner. He further stated that such videos create social disharmony and negatively affect the younger generations. Siddhant Sharma, the officer in charge of Bilsanda police station, said that the police are investigating the matter based on the complaint. He added that legal action has been taken in similar cases in the area before, and would be taken in the future as well.

Similarly, the worship of the Shivling has been used by supremacist ideologies and religions to denigrate Hindus owing to religious animosity. Such slurs and denigration stem out of inherent animosity and hate towards Hindus and their faith, therefore, it is categorised as hate speech targeted at Hindus specifically owing to their religious identity. Such content is recognised as part of a broader pattern of Hinduphobia and religious hate crimes online. This deliberate targeting of revered religious icons firmly establishes this act as a religiously motivated hate crime, therefore, it is being categorised under the hate crime database.
