In Indore, Madhya Pradesh, a Hindu woman was raped by Muslim man named Maqsood Khan, who posed as a Hindu to lure her. The victim is a resident of the Hiranagar area and works in decoration management at wedding functions. She came into contact with the accused on December 20, 2024, in a hotel where she was working. Maqsood approached her under the false pretence of hiring her and obtained her contact number. At that time, Maqsood introduced himself as a Hindu man named Ramesh Kumawat. On January 13, 2025 he contacted her and asked to meet for a discussion regarding wedding arrangements. He took her in a car to a secluded area where he offered her a cold drink, after which the victim lost consciousness. Maqsood then raped her and dropped her home threatening to kill her if she revealed this incident to someone else. On January 20, 2025, Maqsood again contacted her and asked to meet. During the call, someone said Waleikum Assalam, a respectful and customary greeting among Muslims, to the accused, which surprised the victim. When she confronted Maqsood, he told her that he was a Muslim and his real name was Maqsood Khan. On learning his real identity, she refused to meet him. Still, the accused continued to threaten and harass her, even stopping her in the market and issuing death threats. After which, the victim approached the police and filed a complaint. Investigations revealed that Maqsood Khan is a resident of Chhoti Khajrani and has exploited multiple Hindu girls in a similar manner. Among his victims is reportedly the daughter-in-law of a retired Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of police. As of the date of writing this report, the police were making efforts to apprehend the accused while the investigation was ongoing.

In fact, the accused followed a pattern wherein he first religiously profiled the victim and then deceived them by pretending to share their faith, then physically exploited them.
