Hindu men deceived into marriage by illegal Bangladeshi women posing as Hindus

Case Summary
In Rupangarh and Phulera, Rajasthan, three Bangladeshi Muslim women concealed their Muslim identity and assumed Hindu identity. They had been living as wives with local rural men for the past three years after marrying them. They got caught because of the joint operation by the police and CID zone to identify and apprehend illegal Bangladeshi nationals. These three women are biological sisters. The three detained women are sisters aged between 30 and 38. Around three years ago, they married local labourers. Sadia married Mohanlal Jat, a resident of Tikon ki Dhani in Phulera, and took the name Anjali. Begum, also known as Sapna, married Puranmal Jat of Bhadoon, Rupangarh, and assumed the name Kalpana. Their third sister, Sumaiya, married Sugnaram Jat of Moradi, Rupangarh, and adopted the name Maya Devi. All three husbands are labourers by profession. After their marriages, the women had their names added to their husbands’ Aadhaar and ration cards. The police and CID were questioning the women about their family members and acquaintances. The special police team, in collaboration with CID Zone Inspector Narendra Singh, detained the Bangladeshi infiltrators. At the time of writing this report, the district police and CID team have detained 38 Bangladeshi nationals. The police also brought the women's husbands under investigation for providing shelter to foreign nationals by marrying them. Legal action was to be taken against them as well under relevant laws for harbouring illegal immigrants.
Why it is Hate Crime ?
While it has been established that the three Bangladeshi women entered Bharat illegally and assumed Hindu names after marrying local Hindu men, it is not yet clear whether their husbands were aware of their original religious and national identity. If the Hindu men were deceived into the marriages, this could potentially indicate a deliberate act of identity fraud. However, in the absence of clear evidence confirming or denying the husbands’ knowledge, a definitive conclusion cannot be drawn. If further information emerges indicating a religious motive, it may be reclassified accordingly. Disclaimer: Here, it becomes important to note that none of the media reports on this case mention the exact date when the marriage occurred in 2023. Therefore, to document this case, we have chosen a date, which is not accurate but only indicative of the year.
