Hindu woman deceived by Muslim man using fake Hindu identity; impregnated on false promise of marriage and threatened with death

Case Summary
In the Sidcul area, Haridwar, a young Hindu woman was deceived by a Muslim man named Ansar Khan, who introduced himself as a Hindu named Mohit. The Muslim man established a physical relationship with her and impregnated her. When the woman found out about his Muslim identity, he issued death threats to her. The woman, originally from Bijnor, Uttar Pradesh, first met the perpetrator in July 2024 when she visited the shop for a loan of ₹40,000. The Muslim man introduced himself as a Hindu named Mohit. He was working in a shop in Rawali Mahedo, Haridwar. The woman took a loan from the shop. Soon, the perpetrator befriended her. In August, he established a physical relationship with her on the pretext of marriage. Over time, however, he repeatedly avoided any discussion of marriage, which led her to investigate further. Finally, she found that the man was Muslim and his name was Ansar Khan. When she confronted him regarding his identity and intentions, she was threatened with death should she share any details with others. The situation escalated when it became clear she was pregnant, and he continued to deny responsibility or commitment. Following her complaint, the police registered a case and launched a search operation for the accused. A special team was formed to track and arrest him. Station Officer Manohar Bhandari confirmed that efforts are underway and that the arrest is expected soon.
Why it is Hate Crime ?
This case has been added to the tracker un the primary category of - Crimes against women in relationships and other sexual crimes. The sub-category selected here is - Man pretends to be Hindu, with the tertiary sub-category being - Name changed. When a non-Hindu man pretends to be a Hindu to deceive a Hindu woman into a relationship, the act is seen as triggered by malafide intentions. In some cases, the woman eventually accepts the man’s original religious identity and converts after the man’s identity is revealed. These cases could be argued as cases of religious brainwashing and a result of the pressure a woman feels after getting into a relationship with a man. The woman, it can be argued, also changed her religious identity because of the stigma she believes she might face if she chooses to walk out of a deceptive relationship. However, for the purpose of documenting hate crimes, the cases in this subcategory are limited to those where there is explicit violence aimed at religious conversion against the wishes of the victim (force-feeding beef, blackmailing with intimate videos, rape on refusal to convert, etc), or if the woman herself complains of the man’s religious deception. In such cases, it is established that the deception of the non-Hindu man had a specific aim of religious conversion or targeting of the victim due to her Hindu religious identity, therefore, making it a religiously motivated hate crime. The religious motive of the crime is evident from the fact that the Muslim perpetrator hid his true identity to trap the Hindu victim. This itself is a clear manifestation of bias and malicious intent towards the victim's religion. By concealing his true identity, he exploited her trust, targeting her under false pretences. This indicates a premeditated intent to manipulate her based on her religious background. In cases like these, the tactic of adopting a false Hindu identity to manipulate and "ensnare" a Hindu individual is not just an act of personal betrayal but can also be interpreted as an expression of disdain or disregard for Hinduism and its customs that reflects a deeper animosity towards Hindus and their beliefs, and this is why this case has been added here. Disclaimer: Media reports state that the victim's ordeal began when she met the accused in July 2024, though no exact date is provided. To document this case, we have used an indicative date—July 1, 2024—as a placeholder to represent the beginning of her suffering. While media coverage of the incident emerged on May 13, 2025, the Hinduphobia Tracker records the incident based on when the victim’s ordeal began, not when it was reported.
