Pahalgam Hindu massacre mocked: Muslim man congratulates Pakistan on social media

Case Summary
In a horrific act of terror in the Baisaran Valley of Pahalgam, Anantnag district, Jammu and Kashmir, Islamic terrorists systematically identified and targeted Hindu victims. The terrorists demanded names and religious identities, inspected ID cards, coerced tourists to recite the Kalma, and even forcibly pulled down their pants to check for circumcision—all to single out non-Muslims. Once identified, the Hindus were shot at point-blank range. The attack, carried out by terrorists of the Resistance Force, a proxy of the Pakistan-based terror group Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), claimed the lives of 24 Hindus and left 16 others critically injured. Following this incident, some Muslims publicly celebrated the massacre. One such incident involved a social media post from the handle MNQUASMIMD on the platform X (formerly twitter). The post expressed gratitude towards Pakistan and the terrorist group Lashkar-e-Taiba, praising them and expressing a desire to see more attacks on Hindu organisations like RSS, BJP, Bajrang Dal, and sections of the Indian media. The post included celebratory emojis and invoked religious blessings for the terrorists. It sparked outrage online. Social media users tagged the Jharkhand police, demanding immediate action. Law enforcement traced the handle to Mohammad Naushad, a resident of Millat Nagar in the Balidih police jurisdiction of Bokaro, Jharkhand. He was arrested at his residence shortly after the post went viral. His father, Mohammad Mustaq, is a retired employee of the Bokaro Steel Plant, and the family originally hails from Bihar. Public representatives, including Ranchi MLA CP Singh and former Bokaro MLA Biranchi Narayan, contacted the Superintendent of Police to press for immediate arrest. CP Singh stated that individuals like Naushad, who celebrate terrorist violence and function as sleeper cells, pose a grave threat to national security.
Why it is Hate Crime ?
This case is categorised under the primary category- Hate Speech against Hindus. Under that, the relevant sub-category is- Denial or mocking of genocide/large-scale persecution. Denial or mocking of genocide/large-scale persecution/ethnic cleansing refers to the act of denying or minimizing the fact of the ethnic cleansing and/or genocide and/or religious persecution of Hindus. This often involves denying the scale, mechanisms, religious intent, or even the occurrence of the ethnic cleansing and/or genocide and/or religious persecution of Hindus. Hate speech of this kind involves the dissemination of falsehoods that deny or distort established historical facts or mock the suffering of Hindus by saying that they deserved the persecution, motivated by Hinduphobia. Denying such atrocities is not only about the denial of facts or rewriting/revising history, but it also delegitimises the religiously motivated persecution of Hindus, the religious hate/motivation/animosity that led to the persecution, and dehumanises Hindus as a religious group. Such denial of ethnic cleansing and/or genocide and/or religious persecution of Hindus not only denies the suffering but also paves the way for future/present atrocities and hate speech, inciting prejudice and violence against Hindus. It also provides a justification for violence by delinking religious animosity from religiously motivated crimes committed against Hindus. Since such denial and/or mocking of genocide/ethnic cleansing/atrocities motivated by religious animosity leads to present and future ramifications of creating more hate speech, violence, dehumanisation and delegitimisation, it would be considered hate speech under this category. The massacre in Baisaran Valley was a chilling example of religiously motivated terror, where Islamic extremists from the Pakistan-backed group The Resistance Front (a Lashkar-e-Taiba proxy) executed a planned attack targeting Hindus. By verifying names and religious identities before opening fire, the terrorists ensured that the victims were attacked solely on the basis of being Hindu, making this an unequivocal case of targeted killing for Hindu identity. This was not just an act of terror but a hate crime aimed at instilling fear within the broader Hindu community. In this instance, the Muslim youth openly celebrated the brutal killing of individuals based solely on their Hindu identity. By offering gratitude to the Pakistan-backed Islamic terror outfit responsible for the carnage, and by thanking the perpetrators, the individual not only endorsed the atrocity but actively sought to amplify and legitimise it. By praising the Islamic terrorists, the Muslim youth displayed a deep-seated animosity towards the Hindu community. Such praise for terrorists who carried out a targeted killing based on religious identity indicates that the individual harbours more than just prejudice—it reflects a worldview in which the suffering and murder of Hindus is not only acceptable, but desirable. It reveals a mindset shaped by radicalisation, where sympathy lies not with the innocent victims, but with those who seek to annihilate them. Since such callous behaviour can only stem from a profound contempt for the Hindu religion, this case deserves to be recorded in this hate tracker.
