Case Summary

A communal clash erupted in Ajmer village, Sirauli area of Aonla tehsil following a minor altercation over a bike. Saurabh, a Hindu man, was returning home after harvesting wheat when individuals from the Muslim community brushed past his bike. When he protested, he was assaulted. Though villagers initially defused the situation, over 100 people from the Muslim community later stormed Saurabh's house armed with sticks and knives, attacking women and children. Several members the family, including Karan, his wife Meera, and sons Saurabh and Rishabh, were injured. Two individuals from the Muslim side, Munnan and Hasnain Ali, were also hurt. Police rushed to the scene, and some victims were referred to the district hospital due to serious injuries.

Why it is Hate Crime ?

This incident has been placed under the Undecided category rather than the Hate Crime Database, given the currently available information. While the nature of the violence — where a minor altercation over a bike between a Hindu man and Muslim individuals escalated into a large-scale assault — strongly suggests communal undertones, there is no direct evidence reported of explicit religious motivation. Often, such aggression against Hindus by Islamist groups begins as seemingly minor and innocuous disputes. In this case too, a routine conflict quickly escalated into an armed mob attack targeting an entire Hindu household, including women and children, resulting in multiple injuries and hospitalisation. This pattern is disturbingly familiar in many instances of communal violence. However, since no casteist, communal, or Hinduphobic slurs or statements have been documented or reported in this case so far, we cannot definitively label the crime as religiously motivated. As such, it is being added to the Undecided section. Should further evidence emerge confirming communal intent or hate-driven motivations, the case will be moved to the Hate Crime Database.
