Hindu man files complaint against wife for conversion to Christianity
Case Summary
In Udaipur, Rajasthan, a case of conversion to Christianity emerged when a husband filed a police complaint against his wife. He expressed concern that his wife had converted to Christianity and might influence their minor son as well. The wife, along with their 12-year-old son, went missing from home on February 23, 2024. The incident was reported in the Ghantaghar police station area. Prakash Soni complained, stating that his wife Rekha had been attending church and reading Christian religious texts, including the Bible. He stated that Rekha had been teaching their children Christian principles despite his objections, leading to frequent arguments between them. Additionally, he noted physical changes in her appearance after performing puja rituals.
Why it is Hate Crime ?
In this case, there is a suspicion that the children were being religiously groomed, based on the statement of the father. However, it seems true that the woman (the mother of the children) converted to Christianity out of her own free will. Further, as far as the children are concerned, it is true that the woman in question is the children's mother and she has the right to teach her children the faith she professes. The father disagrees with her faith and that makes this a domestic dispute, rather than a hate crime, unless there was evidence to suggest coercive measures by the mother. For that reason, this case is being added as 'undecided'. If more information emerges, it would be added to the hate crime database.
