Md Imran Khan brutally rapes and threatens 4-year-old Hindu girl with knife

Case Summary
On April 14, 2024, the Navghar Police station in Mumbai's Mira Road region filed an FIR against Mohammed Imran Daraj Khan for harassing, threatening and brutally raping a 4-year-old Hindu girl. Khan, who operates a chicken shop near the Orange Hospital, was acquainted with the victim as a neighbour. Despite objections from her father, Khan reportedly enticed the girl with chocolates and biscuits. The incident occurred on April 7, but came to light when the girl complained of stomach ache on April 14. Upon questioning by her father, she disclosed what Khan had done to her a week prior and warned her not to speak about it. On the day of the incident, the accused had called the victim girl to his chicken shop, gave her chocolates, and then after some time forced himself upon her. He forcefully took off her pants and inserted his fingers into her private parts resulting in massive bleeding. He then threatened the girl with a huge knife and asked her to keep her mouth shut, failing which he said he would kill her. After her father got to know, he informed his other neighbours and immediately took the girl to the hospital. He also filed a police complaint at the Navaghar Police Station. Protests erupted in the Mira Road region on the night of April 14th after news of the incident spread. Enraged members of the Hindu community and other locals demanded justice for the 4-year-old girl and called for the accused to face the death penalty. Police reportedly used lathi-charge to disperse the protesters before filing the FIR. The victim is currently receiving treatment at a local hospital, while the accused was arrested.

In this case, the Muslim perpetrator sexually abused and exploited a minor Hindu girl. Since the victim in this case is a minor, there is a strong suspicion of grooming involved. Grooming is a phenomenon where Muslim men specifically target minor non-Muslim girls for sexual exploitation, abuse and rape. However, since there is no specific evidence of a pattern of victimization of Hindu minors by the perpetrator and no indication from the parents of the minor that she was targeted for her religious identity, this case is being categorized as 'undecided'.
