6-year-old Hindu girl raped by Muslim man in Raisen district of Madhya Pradesh
Case Summary
A 6-year-old Hindu girl was raped by a Muslim man in the Goharganj police station area of Raisen district, Madhya Pradesh, on 21 November 2025. The girl was playing outside her home when a 23-year-old man named Salman Khan, alias Nazar, approached her. He lured her with the promise of chocolate, took her to a nearby jungle, raped her, and then fled the scene. When the girl did not return home and could not be seen nearby, her family became alarmed and began searching for her. They eventually found her in the jungle, bleeding heavily. She was immediately taken to the local hospital in Abdullahganj. Because her condition was critical, doctors referred her to AIIMS in Bhopal. The child received surgery at AIIMS Bhopal, and her condition was reported as stable. The family experienced about an hour’s delay in getting an ambulance, which led them to raise concerns about the hospital administration’s response. Following the incident, the Abdullahganj market remained closed as a form of protest, and traders expressed anger over the fact that the suspect had not yet been arrested. Lawyers in Gauharganj and Abdullahganj stated that they would not represent the accused. Police announced a reward of 10,000 for information leading to Salman’s arrest and deployed multiple teams to search for him, though he had not been taken into custody at that time.
Why it is Hate Crime ?
In this case, a 6-year-old minor Hindu girl was sexually assaulted by a Muslim man. This could potentially be a crime motivated by religious profiling, as it has been observed that in many cases, Muslim perpetrators target Hindu minor girls due to inherent animosity towards Hindus and minors being more vulnerable. Hindu girls are very vulnerable to crimes like rape and sexual assault at the hands of Muslim men. However, it is also possible that the crime was one of opportunity, where the minor Hindu girl was simply accessible to the Muslim perpetrator. Meanwhile, it could also be argued that for a Muslim man, a Muslim girl would likely be more accessible than a Hindu girl. The fact that the perpetrator specifically targeted a Hindu girl could suggest religious bias. Nevertheless, this remains unclear, as the case details provide no explicit indication of religious motivations. Furthermore, neither the victim nor her parents made any statements suggesting a religious motive behind the crime. For this reason, the case has been added to the 'Undecided' database. If further information emerges that points towards a religious motivation behind this crime, it would then be reclassified and included in the hate crime database.
