Case Summary

A minor Hindu girl was molested by a 50-year-old Muslim man in the Madwas police station area under the Sidhi district of Madhya Pradesh. According to media reports, the victim, a first-year BA student at Government College Madwas, had left the college around 12 noon and was walking back home through the market. When she passed in front of Bablu Khan’s shop, the 50-year-old shopkeeper called out to her and asked her to step inside to collect some items. She initially refused, but the accused told her that he knew her father, so she entered the shop. Once she was inside, Bablu Khan grabbed her hand, pulled her further in and began touching her inappropriately. She resisted and tried to protest, but he snatched her mobile phone from her and switched it to flight mode so that she could not call for help. The minor girl managed to wrest the phone back from the Muslim man, escaped from the shop and immediately informed her brother about what had happened. She then went to Madwas police station, accompanied by her brother and mother and lodged a formal complaint detailing the entire incident. Following her complaint, the police registered a case against Bablu Khan under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita 2023 and the POCSO Act, 2012, and took him into custody.

Why it is Hate Crime ?

In this case, a minor Hindu girl was molested by a 50-year-old Muslim man. This could potentially be a crime motivated by religious profiling, as it has been observed that in many cases, Muslim perpetrators target Hindu minor girls due to inherent animosity towards Hindus and minors being more vulnerable. Hindu girls are very vulnerable to crimes like rape and sexual assault at the hands of Muslim men. However, it is also possible that the crime was one of opportunity, where the minor Hindu girl was simply accessible to the Muslim perpetrator. Meanwhile, it could also be argued that for a Muslim man, a Muslim girl would likely be more accessible than a Hindu girl. The fact that the perpetrator specifically targeted a Hindu girl could suggest religious bias. Nevertheless, the religious motive remains unclear, as the case details provide no explicit indication of religious motivations. Furthermore, neither the victim nor her parents made any statements suggesting a religious motive behind the crime. For this reason, the case has been added to the 'Undecided' database. If further information emerges that points towards a religious motivation behind this crime, it would then be reclassified and included in the hate crime database of the Hinduphobia Tracker. Disclaimer: The Hinduphobia Tracker records incidents based on when an event occurred or when the victim's ordeal began, rather than when it is reported by the media. It is important to clarify that none of the media sources covering this case has specified the exact date when the incident happened. Therefore, for documentation purposes, we have recorded the date based on when the incident was reported in the media, 22 November 2025.
