Cow smugglers transporting 27 cattle intercepted by police and Gau Raksha Dal in Palwal, Haryana
Case Summary
A major case of cow smuggling was exposed in Palwal district of Haryana, where police, with the assistance of Gau Raksha Dal members, intercepted a truck carrying 27 cattle, two of which were found dead. The operation took place on the KGP Expressway near the Camp police station area on the night of 13 November 2025. Two accused, identified as Jaan Mohammad, a resident of Hussainpur in Nuh district, and Naseem, a resident of Shahpur Nangli, were arrested at the spot. According to Camp Police Station in-charge Krishna Gopal, the patrol team led by Sub-Inspector Amit Kumar had received information that the two men were involved in cow smuggling and were transporting cattle from Aligarh in Uttar Pradesh to Nuh district in Haryana. Acting upon the information, the police coordinated with Gau Raksha Dal members Sonu, Vikram Singh, and Rohit, and set up a barricade near the KGP Toll Plaza to intercept the vehicle. When signalled to stop, the accused halted the truck, and on inspection in the presence of the Gau Raksha Dal members, the police found 27 cattle tied cruelly with ropes inside. Two of the animals had died due to suffocation and inhumane conditions. The surviving cattle were rescued and sent to a nearby gaushala for treatment and care. Following the discovery, the police seized the truck and registered a formal FIR at the Camp Police Station under relevant sections concerning cow slaughter and animal cruelty. Both accused were taken into custody, and the investigation revealed possible links to a larger smuggling network.
Why it is Hate Crime ?
The cow holds a deeply sacred and irreplaceable position within Hindu civilisation, symbolising purity, nourishment, compassion, and the ideal of non-violence. Its reverence is not limited to religious ritual but extends to moral philosophy and social ethos, reflecting the principle of ahimsa and the civilisational duty of protection towards all living beings. Across centuries, the protection of the cow has been understood as a visible manifestation of dharma, an ethical commitment integral to sustaining both personal virtue and societal harmony. Historically, the slaughter or smuggling of cows by non-Hindu actors has carried an undeniable element of insult for Hindu communities, often functioning as a deliberate provocation or an expression of contempt toward Hindu values and belief systems. The incident in Palwal, Haryana, in which police and Gau Raksha Dal members intercepted a truck carrying 27 cattle, two of which were found dead, fits into this long-standing context of cultural and religious sensitivity. The act of tying and transporting cows under cruel conditions is not only a violation of animal welfare laws but also a breach of deep civilisational sentiment attached to the sanctity of the cow in Hindu culture. However, at present, there is no evidence to confirm that this particular act of smuggling and cruelty was driven by explicit religious hostility or a targeted attempt to insult the Hindu faith. Therefore, the case has been recorded in the Undecided Database of the Hinduphobia Tracker. If future investigation or credible testimony establishes that the perpetrators acted with religious animosity or intent to provoke Hindu sentiment, the case will be reclassified into the Hate Crime Database accordingly.
