Case Summary
On 3rd November 2025, an 8-year-old Hindu girl was molested by a 50-year-old Muslim man at a sweet shop, who also tried to take the child with him. The case is from Jhajha city in Jamui district of Bihar. The victim’s mother had sent the girl to a nearby sweet shop to buy samosas, and she took her younger brother along for company. While she waited at the shop, a Muslim man named Sikandar Raza approached her. He tried to lure the girl by offering to take her home on his motorcycle, claiming he knew where she lived and that it was just nearby. He then kissed her cheeks three times without her consent. She refused the ride and hurried back home. As soon as she reached home, she told her mother everything that had happened. The next morning, around 10:00 AM, the man returned to the same shop. Locals recognised him from the previous day, questioned him, and alerted the girl's mother. She confronted him directly, asking why he had targeted her daughter and behaved that way. Word spread quickly in the neighbourhood, leading to anger among residents who gathered at Gandhi Chowk and beat up the accused. The girl's mother filed a formal complaint with the Jhajha police. Based on her application, the police arrested the man. They seized the CCTV footage as evidence and registered the case under Section 97 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Section 8 of the POCSO Act (case number 528/25). The man was sent to jail after initial medical treatment following the public confrontation, and the girl was taken to court to record her statement under Section 164.
