Case Summary

Two Delhi natives, Kanhaiya Lal from Rohini and Rajesh from Sultanpuri, faced charges of enticing vulnerable locals into converting to Christianity through inducements on 9th November 2025. The incident is from the Charkhi Dadri area, where local activists from a Hindu organisation, led by Gaurav and municipal councillor Naveen Prajapat, mobilised about 20 men to confront the duo at a rented upper-floor space in the home of resident Ram Niwas, a property the accused duo had leased roughly a month earlier under the pretext of hosting weekly satsang gatherings. The activists burst into the session and recovered incriminating materials like a Bible, cash voucher booklets, and forms linked to the meetings. The group apprehended Kanhaiya Lal and Rajesh, escorting them to the local police station alongside a formal written complaint. Acting SHO Bhim Singh confirmed the registration of a case and initiated a detailed probe, vowing to proceed based solely on verifiable evidence. Throughout the interrogation, the accused vehemently rejected any involvement in conversions, asserting their own Hindu identity and framing the event as a benign spiritual discussion. Supporters from the gathering—comprising attendees from Dadri, Bhiwani, and Jhajjar districts, including women, youths, and children from the Valmiki Basti community- rallied at the station, advocating for the men's immediate release. The standoff persisted for nearly three hours, with both factions lingering amid heightened tensions, before authorities formally documented the claims and launched a comprehensive inquiry to unravel the truth behind the incident.

Why it is Hate Crime ?

In this case, two men from Delhi rented a flat in the Charkhi Dadri area, on the pretext of holding weekly "satsang" meetings. Acting on a tip, when Hindu activists arrived at the gathering, they recovered a Bible, a cash voucher book and forms related to the religious gathering. The accused emphasised their Hindu identity and denied any wrongdoing. The attendees also come in support of the accused duo. Recovery of the Bible raises suspicion over the claims of satsang meetings and the Hindu identity of the accused men. There is a strong indication that the perpetrators were indulging in brainwashing and indoctrinating, which would be considered predatory in nature. The context and sequence of events here bear striking resemblance to numerous past incidents where “conferences”, “healing sessions”, or “prayer meetings” were later exposed as covert proselytising exercises. These events often begin as innocuous community or social gatherings but gradually evolve into platforms for indoctrination, where faith-based manipulation and emotional grooming are employed to influence vulnerable individuals, particularly from lower-income or socially marginalised Hindu families. However, as per the available information, some of the attendees themselves stated that they were there of their own free will. Though it is entirely possible in this instance that the victim said so under threat or duress, the investigation is ongoing, and until more information emerges, this case is being added to the undecided database.
