Cows illegally smuggled by Muslim man and his accomplices in Maharashtra
Case Summary
In Bakhardi village, Korpana, Chandrapur district, Maharashtra, cows were being illegally smuggled by a Muslim man and his accomplices. According to media reports, the cows were being taken to the Adilabad slaughterhouse in Telangana state. This incident came to light when Korpana police personnel Baliram Dhansingh Pawar, was on duty in Gadchandur and was returning to Korpana on a moped. At night near Bakhardi village, a speeding Tata pickup truck, registration number MH 04 GC 7497, overtook him. Suspecting the vehicle’s speed, he followed it and stopped the Tata pickup approximately 5 km from Korpana at the Vansadi Toll Plaza. Upon searching the vehicle, he found nine cattle—six cows and three calves. Based on this, Korpana police arrested the pickup driver Abdul Aziz Abdul Raouf (38), Ikraar Jabbar Shaikh (42), and Gajanan Pandhari Madavi (20), residents of Gadchandur Ward No. 4. After interrogation, three more accused—Shakir Suleman Shaikh, Kalu Mamu, residents of Gadchandur, and Sufiyana Shaikh from Korpana—were charged with cattle smuggling. In this operation, police seized two mobile phones worth ₹10,000, nine cattle valued at ₹1,05,000, and a vehicle worth ₹2,50,000, totalling goods worth ₹3.65 lakh. Further investigation was conducted under the guidance of Station House Officer Lata Wadhive by Police Sub-Inspector Prakash Rathod.
Why it is Hate Crime ?
The cow holds a deeply sacred place in Hinduism, symbolising purity, non-violence, and life-giving sustenance. It is revered as a maternal figure and often associated with various deities; the cow embodies the principles of ahimsa (non-injury) and generosity fundamental to Hindu belief. Its protection is not only a religious duty but a profound cultural commitment that connects Hindus to their spiritual and ethical traditions. Across history, cow slaughter by non-Hindu perpetrators has been a direct insult to the Hindu faith, frequently sparking communal tensions and violence. Documented cases abound where cow slaughter has been exploited as a tool to humiliate Hindus, force dietary violations such as forced beef consumption, and desecrate Hindu temples, reflecting a pattern of religious antagonism. However, in this particular incident, there is no conclusive evidence of religious motivation behind the crime. Therefore, this case is being added to the Undecided Database of the Hinduphobia Tracker. If any further details emerge that establish religious animosity as a motivating factor, the case will be reassessed and promptly transferred to the Hate Crime Database.
