Stalker Raees Sayyed threatens to ruin life of Hindu girl in Nasik after she refuses his advances, abducts her and takes her to a Dargah
Case Summary
Maharashtra’s Nasik police arrested a youth named Raees Sayyed on charges of harassment, threat and abduction. He is accused of stalking, threatening and forcing a minor Hindu girl named Nikita into marriage and abducting her when she did not accede to his demands. The case came to the fore after Nikita’s family filed a missing complaint with the Niphad police station in Nasik. The accused made numerous phone calls and sent threatening messages to the victim’s mother also. However, not seeing things going his way, Sayyed abducted Nikita when she was on her way to her computer class on May 27. He first took her to a ‘Dargah’ in Ajmer from where he took her to Taragarh in Rajasthan, Nashik SP Umap Shah said.
Why it is Hate Crime ?
In this case, a woman was abducted, raped, and threatened by Muslim perpetrators. It has often been seen that Muslim perpetrators target Hindu women owing to intrinsic animosity towards Hindus, specifically Hindu women. There is a strong suspicion that this case was a religiously motivated hate crime because the accused was clearly fully aware of the religious identity of the victim and took her to a Dargah after abducting her. It is suspected that the accused took the minor to the dargah for conversion or faith. But, it can also be argued that the Dargah was used as a pitstop. Since there is no concrete indication of a religious motive (since it is unclear if the victim was converted), this case is being categorized as 'undecided'. If more details emerge, it would be added to the hate crime database.
