Case Summary

In Hardoi, Uttar Pradesh, a 14-year-old Hindu girl was lured into a relationship by a Muslim man and was later abducted by a group of Muslim men. According to media reports, some young Muslim men lured the victim into a romantic relationship, enticed her out of her home, and then abducted her, taking her away in a car. The girl’s family filed a formal complaint naming Muslim men, Uvesh, Parvez, and Islamuddin as the perpetrators. However, the police failed to take action against them and instead registered a case against unknown individuals. The victim’s family filed a complaint stating that the girl was abducted on 9th September 2025, at 1:30 PM, while going to relieve herself in the east of the village. The complaint stated that the girl was forcibly taken by Uvesh, with the help of Parvez and Islamuddin, in a four-wheeler. Witnesses, including Satish, son of Rajendra from village Daheliya, and several other villagers, saw the accused taking the Hindu girl away in the vehicle. The complainant stated that despite filing a written complaint at Pihani Police Station, the report was not registered due to political pressure from the Muslims. Angered by police inaction, the family and members of the Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party staged a protest at the Pihani police station. The situation was calmed after Circle Officer Ajit Singh assured them of action. Following the escalating controversy, the police took action and rescued the girl safely. However, despite the named complaint, the accused were not arrested. This caused widespread anger among the victim's family and local residents. Circle Officer Ajit Singh stated that the family had filed an anonymous complaint, on the basis of which action had been taken. However, a copy of the original complaint, naming the accused, circulated on social media, raising questions about the police’s handling of the case. The victim’s family stated that due to police negligence, their daughter was not receiving justice in a timely manner. They appealed to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to intervene and ensure justice in the case.

Why it is Hate Crime ?

In this case, a minor Hindu girl was lured and abducted by Muslim men. This could potentially be a crime motivated by religious profiling, as it has been observed that in many cases, Muslim perpetrators target Hindu girls due to inherent animosity towards Hindus, particularly minor Hindu girls. It could also be argued that for a Muslim perpetrator, a Muslim girl would likely be more accessible than a Hindu girl. The fact that the perpetrators specifically targeted the Hindu girl suggests religious profiling of the victim. However, it is equally possible that the crime was one of opportunity, where the Hindu girl was simply accessible to the Muslim perpetrators.
