Hindu girl lured, pressured to convert to Islam, and threatened with death by Muslim man pretending to be Hindu
Case Summary
In Rampur, Uttar Pradesh, a Hindu girl was deceived into a relationship and then pressured to convert to Islam and marry a Muslim man. The accused had posed as a Hindu in order to deceive the victim. Following this, he threatened her with death at gunpoint to force her to convert to Islam. According to media reports, the Muslim accused, Aman Siddiqui, a resident of Mohalla Asadullahpur, had created a fake identity on social media under a Hindu name. Through this deception, he trapped the Hindu girl in a relationship and later began pressuring her to convert. On the evening of 26th August 2025, he stopped the victim on the road, brandishing a pistol. He demanded that she marry him and convert to Islam, threatening to kill her if she refused. At this point, the girl raised an alarm. A crowd of passers-by gathered around the scene. When confronted, the accused attempted to flee while waving the pistol, but people chased him down, caught him, and, after overpowering him, handed him over to the police. Following this, the victim’s mother filed a police complaint against Siddiqui. He was arrested and on 27th August 2025 was produced in court, from where he was sent to jail. Inspector-in-charge Dhananjay Singh stated that the accused had been persistently following the girl and pressuring her to marry him, while also harassing her for conversion. He confirmed that residents of the locality caught Siddiqui red-handed while threatening her. A formal FIR was registered against him, and a challan was issued.
Why it is Hate Crime ?
This case has been added to the tracker under the primary category- Crimes against women in relationships and other sexual crimes. Within this, the subcategory selected is- Man pretends to be Hindu. The tertiary category selected is- Name Changed. When a non-Hindu man pretends to be a Hindu to deceive a Hindu woman into a relationship, the act is seen as triggered by malafide intentions. In some cases, the woman eventually accepts the man’s original religious identity and converts after the man’s identity is revealed. These cases could be argued as cases of religious brainwashing and a result of the pressure a woman feels after getting into a relationship with a man. The woman, it can be argued, also changed her religious identity because of the stigma she believes she might face if she chooses to walk out of a deceptive relationship. However, for the purpose of documenting hate crimes, the cases in this subcategory are limited to those where there is explicit violence aimed at religious conversion against the wishes of the victim (force-feeding beef, blackmailing with intimate videos, rape on refusal to convert, etc), or if the woman herself complains of the man’s religious deception. In such cases, it is established that the deception of the non-Hindu man had a specific aim of religious conversion or targeting of the victim due to her Hindu religious identity, therefore, making it a religiously motivated hate crime. The other subcategory selected is- Forced conversion before marriage. In such cases, a non-Hindu man is in a relationship with a Hindu woman when the pressure to convert her religion begins to manifest. In such cases, typically, two patterns emerge. First, when the relationship is consensual, and the religious identity of the perpetrator is known to the Hindu woman in the relationship, however, at some point during the relationship, the non-Hindu man starts to force the victim to convert her religion and give up her Hindu religious identity. The second is when the woman gets into a marriage with the man pretending to share her faith. Later, when the truth is revealed, the man starts pressuring the woman to convert her religion and give up her religious identity. In both the situations, the methods used to force the victim to convert her religion often revolve around force-feeding beef, forcing her to wear hijab, forcing her to read the Kalma or even pressurizing the victim to do ‘Nikah’, which is marriage under Islamic law, with a prerequisite being conversion to Islam. Cases where a Hindu woman consensually converts to Islam in a relationship will be left out of the hate crime database, even though it could be argued in several cases that the conversion was a result of religious brainwashing. The other subcategory selected is- Assault or threat upon refusal to convert. When Hindu women are in a relationship with non-Hindu men, there are cases where the woman faces threats or assault after she refuses to convert and change her religious identity owing to pressure/force by the non-Hindu man. Such relationships may be consensual with the religious identity of the non-Hindu man known to the victim. Somewhere along the relationship, the non-Hindu man starts pressurizing the Hindu woman to convert to Islam and upon her refusal, assaults or threatens the victim. Such cases are driven by specific religious motivations and against the religious identity of the victim and are therefore qualified as hate crimes. Cases where the Hindu woman converts to Islam and does not file a complaint about the force or threat, are not considered a part of the hate tracker, even though, it may be argued that the woman was brainwashed or threatened to convert to Islam. In this case, a Hindu girl was deceived into a relationship by a Muslim man who pretended to be Hindu. After this, she was pressured and threatened to convert to Islam and marry the perpetrator. Firstly, the act of deception itself — by posing as a Hindu — demonstrates clear bias and malicious intent towards the girl’s religion. By hiding his true identity, the man manipulated her trust and targeted her under false pretences, indicating a premeditated effort to exploit her specifically because of her Hindu background. The deliberate concealment of religious identity strongly underscores the religious motive behind this crime. Such concealment is not a mere personal ploy — it is a calculated strategy rooted in religious profiling and targeting. The accused knew that the Hindu girl would likely refuse his advances if she knew his real identity, and by lying, he deliberately bypassed her consent. This deception reflects a wider pattern in which Hindu girls are specifically singled out using false identities, often with the goal of coercion or conversion. Such targeted victimisation demonstrates not only a disregard for Hinduism but also a deeper animosity towards Hindus and their way of life. Secondly, once the girl discovered the perpetrator’s true identity, he escalated his actions by coercing her to convert to Islam and marry him. This revealed that his deception and exploitation were carried out with the calculated intention of achieving his underlying objective of religious conversion. By doing so, he violated the girl’s fundamental right to practise her own faith and attempted to strip her of her Hindu identity. These actions reflect entrenched religious hostility and disdain towards Hindus and Hinduism, making this case a clear example of a religiously motivated offence. Thirdly, the matter reached its most dangerous point when the accused brandished a pistol at the Hindu girl, pressuring her to convert to Islam and marry him, while threatening to kill her if she refused. This act of issuing threats at gunpoint in order to force the victim to abandon her faith demonstrates that the perpetrator’s goal went beyond personal misconduct. His actions were directed at stripping the girl of her religious identity and compelling her to renounce Hinduism. Such an act is not merely criminal — it squarely illustrates the religiously motivated nature of this offence, making it an unmistakable instance of hate crime. Given that this case meets multiple parameters of a religiously motivated hate crime, it is being added to the Hate Crime database. Disclaimer: Media reports do not specify the exact date when the Hindu girl was first lured by the Muslim man posing as a Hindu. However, they do state that on 26th August 2025, the accused stopped the girl on the road, brandished a pistol, and pressured her to convert to Islam and marry him, threatening to kill her if she refused. This is the only specific date mentioned in the report. Hence, for the purposes of documentation, 26th August 2025 has been recorded as the indicative date of the incident. The incident itself was reported in the media on 27th August 2025. In line with the practice of Hinduphobia Tracker, the date recorded is that of the victim’s ordeal, rather than the date of media reporting.
