Case Summary
In Karnataka, the Manchenahalli police seized 2,500 kg of beef, which had been illegally collected from Alipore for sale in Bengaluru. The total value of the meat was estimated at ₹4.80 lakh. Acting on a tip-off, the police raided two cow shelters in Bakri Mohalla Gali of Alipore on August 3, 2025. Upon seeing the police, the cowshed owner and employees immediately fled the scene. The authorities confiscated the meat of 25 cows from the premises. As of the date of writing this report, the police registered a case against the Muslim cowshed owners named Abbas, Khalu, Syed Saqlain, and Lalu.
Why it is Hate Crime ?
The seizure of beef in this case raises strong concerns about religious animosity towards Hindus as a potential motive behind the crime. In Hinduism, the cow is regarded as sacred and holds deep religious and cultural significance. Often, cows are slaughtered by non-Hindu perpetrators as a mark of insult to the Hindu faith. There have been several documented cases throughout history where cow slaughter is used as a method to insult the Hindu faith, convert Hindus (by force-feeding beef), and desecrate Hindu temples. In all cases of cow slaughter, there is always a suspicion of religious animosity against Hindus working as a motivating factor. However, in the absence of any concrete evidence that the crime was religiously motivated, this case is being categorised under the 'Undecided' database. If more details emerge that demonstrate religious animosity as a motivating factor behind the crime, then it will be added to the hate crime database.
