Mentally disabled Hindu girl gang-raped by Muslim men; attackers filmed the assault and sent video to victim's brother
Case Summary
In Hassan, Karnataka, a mentally disabled young Hindu girl was abducted and gang-raped by three Muslim men, namely, Abdul Aftab, Razak Pasha, and Imran. According to reports, the incident occurred when the victim was alone at home. Her father and brother were out at work. During this time, the three Muslim accused abducted her and gang-raped her. The perpetrators also recorded a video of the assault on their mobile phones. Following this, the accused deliberately sent the video to the victim's brother to humiliate and intimidate the victim's family. They also circulated the video to multiple people on the internet. The victim's brother, upon receiving the video, immediately forwarded it to a trusted friend before reaching out to the Pension Mohalla police station. Subsequently, he reached out to the police, and they acted swiftly and registered a case under sections relating to rape and crimes against persons with disabilities. A medical examination of the victim confirmed the sexual assault. As of the date of writing this report, the three Muslim accused have been arrested by the police, and the investigation is ongoing.
Why it is Hate Crime ?
In this case, a mentally challenged Hindu girl was abducted and gang-raped by three Muslim men. The perpetrators also recorded the assault and sent a video to the victim's brother to humiliate and intimidate the victim's family. This could potentially be a crime motivated by religious profiling, as in several cases, Muslim perpetrators have targeted Hindu women and girls due to religious animosity towards Hindus and their faith. Hindu women and girls are particularly vulnerable to crimes such as rape and sexual assault. However, in this case, it is also possible that the crime was opportunistic, with the victim targeted primarily because she was accessible and mentally challenged, making her more vulnerable. Some may argue that the Muslim perpetrators specifically targeting a Hindu girl could also suggest religious profiling, but this remains highly speculative. At present, there is no clear evidence indicating religious motivations behind the crime, and neither the victim nor her family members provided any statements suggesting a religious motive. For this reason, the case has been added to the 'Undecided' database. If any further information emerges indicating a religious motivation behind the crime, it will be reclassified and included in the hate crime database.
