Case Summary

In Jalalpur, Ambedkar Nagar, Uttar Pradesh, a Hindu girl was sexually exploited under the pretext of marriage and then forced to convert to Islam by a Muslim youth. According to media reports, this incident occurred in a village in Jalalpur where both Hindu and Muslim communities lived. The Muslim accused lured the Hindu girl into a romantic relationship. During this period, he sexually exploited her by promising to marry her. Afterwards, he began to pressure her to convert to Islam. The girl subsequently confided the entire incident to her family. Following this, her father went to Malipur police station and lodged a complaint against the Muslim accused. The police responded promptly and registered a case against the Muslim youth under sections relating to molestation and forced religious conversion. Malipur police station chief Swatantra Kumar Maurya confirmed that, on the victim's father’s complaint, a case had been registered against the accused and an investigation was underway. The accused was arrested on August 5, 2025. Reports also stated that prior incidents of forced religious conversions had occurred in this village.

Cases where a Hindu woman consensually converts to Islam in a relationship will be left out of the hate crime database, even though it could be argued in several cases that the conversion was a result of religious brainwashing.
