Hindu girl faces stalking, harassment, and sabotage of marriage by Muslim man
Case Summary
In the Bajaj Nagar area of Jaipur, Rajasthan, an attempt was made to sabotage the engagement of a Hindu girl by a Muslim man named Shakir. The accused had been stalking and harassing the Hindu girl for a long time. According to the police, the marriage of the Hindu girl, a resident of Brahmapuri, was fixed with a young Hindu man who was a resident of the Bajaj Nagar area. The Muslim accused, Shakir, pretended to be a Hindu man named Rahul Pacherwal and, along with a girl named Neelu, went to the house of the Hindu girl's fiancé. There, Shakir stated that he had a past romantic relationship with the girl and tried to convince her fiancé to call off the engagement. However, suspicions arose among the locals due to inconsistencies in his statements and demeanour. When confronted and questioned more rigorously, Shakir revealed his Muslim identity. Upon this revelation, the local residents apprehended Shakir and Neelu, thrashed them, and handed them over to the police. Local residents from Brahmapuri later informed the police that Shakir had been harassing the Hindu girl on multiple occasions in the past by stopping her on the way and making advances, despite being warned. Members of various Hindu organisations, including the Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal, gathered at the police station and stated that this was part of a wider pattern where Muslim youth conceal their identities using Hindu symbols like Tilak and Kalava to deceive Hindu girls. Former BJP councillor Sanjeev Sharma described the incident as the coordinated work of an organised gang.
Why it is Hate Crime ?
This case has been added to the Undecided database due to the absence of any concrete evidence indicating a religious motive behind the crime. It may be argued that the Muslim perpetrator posed as a Hindu in order to gain access to the victim's fiancé’s home. This suggests the possibility of a religious motivation. Still, there is no evidence that the Hindu victim herself was approached or deceived by the perpetrator using a false Hindu identity. Given that the wedding preparations were underway at the house, it is entirely plausible that the Muslim man feigned a Hindu identity simply to enter the premises and disrupt the marriage, seemingly driven by an obsessive fixation on the victim rather than explicit religious animosity. Nevertheless, the concerns raised by Hindu organisations that this was an instance of a Muslim man targeting a Hindu woman out of religious hostility cannot be entirely dismissed. There is a troubling pattern where Muslim perpetrators have targeted Hindu women and girls, motivated by underlying animosity towards Hindus and their faith. Hindu women and girls remain especially vulnerable to crimes such as rape, sexual assault, forced conversions, and even murder at the hands of Muslim men, often involving repeated harassment. In this case, the Muslim accused escalated the harassment by attempting to sabotage the girl’s marriage, further highlighting the obsessive and predatory nature of his actions. Despite these concerns, there is no conclusive evidence that the crime was driven by religious motives. As neither police reports nor statements from the victim’s family explicitly reference a religious angle, the case has been categorised under the Undecided database. If any further information comes to light indicating a religious motive, the case will be added to the hate crime database. Disclaimer: Hinduphobia Tracker is accounting incidents against Hindus by non-Hindu perpetrators, and for this reason, we are just considering the Muslim accused, Shakir, in the perpetrator count.
