Minor Hindu girl lured away by Muslim man in Uttar Pradesh

Case Summary
In the Gauri Bazar police station area, located in the Deoria district of Uttar Pradesh, a minor Hindu girl was lured away by a Muslim man. According to media reports, the Muslim accused is identified as Sainal, son of Nawabuddin. The Hindu victim is a teenager. The Muslim accused had lured and persuaded her to elope with him. Following the girl's elopement, the victim's mother filed a police complaint against the Muslim perpetrator, Sainal. Subsequently, Inspector Nanda Prasad registered a case in this matter and began an investigation. Following this, the Sadar MLA took the matter seriously and wrote a letter to the DGP (Director General of Police). Additional Superintendent of Police, Arvind Verma, said that after registering a case, a team was formed to arrest the accused. He also stated that all necessary actions would be taken in this matter.

In this case, a minor Hindu girl was lured away by a Muslim man. This incident raises serious concerns regarding possible religious profiling of the victim, especially given the documented pattern of Muslim men targeting Hindu girls, particularly minors, due to deep-seated animosity towards the Hindu community. It is worth noting that if the Muslim perpetrator had simply sought a relationship, a Muslim girl might have been more accessible to him than a Hindu girl. The deliberate targeting of a Hindu girl strongly suggests that religious profiling could have played a part in the crime. It is also crucial to highlight that the Hindu victim in this instance is a minor. Therefore, any supposed “consent” given by her holds no legal standing under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. Minors lack the maturity and legal capacity to make adult decisions such as engaging in romantic relationships or eloping with an adult.
