Case Summary

In the Ubdi police station area, located in the Khargone district of Madhya Pradesh, two men were smuggling and illegally transporting cows. The police acted swiftly and rescued three cows. Media reports stated that the police had received information that a pickup vehicle, with the registration number "MP10G0172", was being loaded with cows and was illegally transporting them to the Bistan Road Bhonga Nala. As soon as the information was received, the police team proceeded to the location. After a short while, the vehicle was spotted. Police surrounded it and brought it to a halt. There were two individuals in the vehicle. Upon questioning, one identified himself as Deva Bhalase, a resident of village Ubdi, Balkwada police station, and the other as Rahul Solanki, a resident of village Ubdi, Maingaon police station. Upon searching the vehicle, the officers found three cows cruelly crammed inside. The police freed the animals and seized the vehicle, which was valued at approximately five lakh rupees. The value of the seized cows was estimated to be around one lakh rupees. Subsequently, the police registered a case at the police station under the Cow Slaughter Prohibition Act and the Animal Cruelty Prevention Act. SDOP Rohit Lakhare, Kotwali police station in-charge Inspector BL Mandloi, Sub Inspector Deepak Bhalase, Head Constable Bhurla Solanki, and other staff played a significant role in this operation.

Why it is Hate Crime ?

The cow is considered sacred in the Hindu religion. Often, cows are smuggled for slaughter by perpetrators as a mark of insult to the Hindu faith. There have been several documented cases throughout history where cow slaughter is used as a method to insult the Hindu faith, convert Hindus (by force-feeding beef), and desecrate Hindu temples. In all cases of cow smuggling or slaughter, there is a suspicion of religious animosity against Hindus working as a motivating factor. However, in the absence of any concrete evidence that the crime was religiously motivated, this case is being categorised under the 'Undecided' database. If more details emerge that demonstrate religious animosity as a motivating factor behind the crime, then it will be added to the hate crime database.
