Minor Hindu girl lured away by Muslim man in Jharkhand

Case Summary
In Nainamarni village in the Jamtara district of Jharkhand, a minor Hindu girl was lured away by a Muslim man named Naseem Ansari. According to media reports, Naseem lured the minor girl away, after which the girl’s parents immediately filed a police complaint at the Narayanpur police station. However, the victim's parents stated that the police took no serious action in the matter. Disappointed with the response at the police station, the family contacted BJP District President Sumit Sharan. With the support of Sumit Sharan and BJP leader Mahendra Mandal, the family went to meet the Superintendent of Police. As the SP was on leave, they met the SDPO instead. Recognising the seriousness of the situation, the SDPO assured them of prompt action. The BJP subsequently raised concerns regarding administrative inaction in this case. BJP District President Sumit Sharan narrated, "Cases like love jihad have increased under the rule of Hemant Soren's government. This is not the first incident in Jamtara. Previously, as well, incidents of Muslim youths luring and kidnapping Hindu girls have come to light, but the administration has remained a mute spectator." BJP leader Mahendra Mandal reported that such incidents had been occurring continuously in the Narayanpur area and, due to administrative negligence, victim families were forced to make repeated visits to police stations. He further stated that, due to the influence of Jamtara's Muslim MLA, Irfan Ansari, the police did not take any action in this matter.
Why it is Hate Crime ?
In this case, a minor Hindu girl was lured away by a Muslim man named Naseem Ansari. This case raises serious concerns about possible religious profiling, as there have been numerous instances where Muslim men have targeted Hindu girls, particularly minors, due to deep-seated animosity towards the Hindu community. One could also argue that, if the Muslim perpetrator had simply sought a relationship, a Muslim girl might have been more accessible to him than a Hindu girl. The deliberate targeting of a Hindu girl strongly suggests that religious profiling may have played a role. However, it is also equally possible that this was a crime of opportunity rather than an instance of a religiously motivated crime. It is also crucial to emphasise that the victim in this case is a minor. Any supposed “consent” from her is legally invalid under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. Minors are immature and cannot make adult decisions like being in a romantic relationship with anyone or eloping with them. However, it is important to acknowledge that, at this stage, there is no conclusive evidence confirming a religious motive, and the victim’s family has not made any statements to that effect. As such, this case has been placed in the ‘Undecided’ database. If further information emerges indicating a religious motivation behind the crime, then the case will be reclassified and included in the Hate Crime database. Disclaimer: It is important to clarify that the report does not specify the exact date when the girl's ordeal began. However, it has been mentioned that the Muslim man lured the minor girl away on 24 June 2025. Therefore, for the purpose of documentation, this date is being treated as the date of the incident.
