Case Summary

A Hindu girl was lured into a relationship by a married Muslim man and was being trafficked to Oman. On 28th June 2025, the 18-year-old Hindu girl from Taranagar in Churu district, Rajasthan, was rescued just moments before she could be trafficked to Oman. The girl had been in online contact for around a year and a half with Mohammad Islam, a 35-year-old Muslim man originally from the same area but now residing in Oman. Posing as a wealthy businessman, Islam lured the girl into a fabricated romantic relationship through social media, concealing his real background as a labourer and his marital status. Over time, he arranged a passport for her, booked an Air India flight to Muscat, and arranged for her travel from Taranagar to Delhi. On 28th June, she left home with Rs 1 lakh in cash and gold and silver jewellery, intending to fly to Oman. Her family, unaware of her departure, alerted the police when they discovered she was missing. Due to swift coordination between Churu police, Delhi police, the Oman Embassy, and airport authorities, the girl was found and stopped at the Delhi airport minutes before boarding. Authorities believe that if the rescue had been delayed, she would have been trafficked. The case, at the time of being uploaded to the tracker, was being investigated under cybercrime and human trafficking angles.

Why it is Hate Crime ?

This case sits at the intersection of online grooming, long term manipulation, and cross border trafficking risk, which makes it a serious example of how digital proximity can be used to draw Hindu women into situations of extreme vulnerability. The man constructed a carefully curated identity, hiding his marital status, occupation, and intentions, and maintained contact for more than a year, which indicates a slow and deliberate pattern of influence rather than an impulsive interaction. The operational planning involved in arranging her passport, funding her travel, coordinating her movement from Rajasthan to Delhi, and securing an international ticket suggests a degree of purpose that goes beyond an ordinary relationship dispute. The family’s discovery of her disappearance, the urgency of the police response, and the narrow rescue window at the airport reinforce concerns that the trajectory of events was pointed towards trafficking rather than consensual migration. From a Hinduphobia centred perspective, the identity configuration and the method of engagement do resemble patterns seen in cases where Hindu women are targeted through deception or false intimacy. However, the girl is an adult and her direct statement is not yet available. Without her testimony, it is not possible to establish whether the man’s actions were tied to religious hostility or whether the primary motive was exploitation for commercial or personal gain. Given these uncertainties, the case is placed in the Undecided database. It carries clear indicators that merit close observation, but the absence of her own account limits any firm conclusion regarding motive at this stage.
