Hindu family attacked by Muslims for protesting misconduct on their property

Case Summary
A violent incident took place on the day of Eid in the Bisalpur Kotwali area of Pilibhit. In Habibullah Khan Shumali, Ward No. 13, a Hindu family objected to a group of Muslims drinking alcohol in an orchard. In response, the youths called their associates and launched an attack on the family. According to the complaint filed by the victim, Mamta Devi, four individuals from Mohalla Gyaspur—Anas, Sohail, Ayan, and Musharraf—had been consuming alcohol in a mango orchard near her house. When the family asked them to stop, the men became aggressive and started abusing them. As tensions escalated, the accused summoned more people and assaulted the family with sticks and clubs. The attack left Mamta Devi, her husband Deshraj, and their children among six people injured. Due to the severity of his condition, Deshraj was referred to the district hospital. The incident, which occurred during Eid and Navratri, quickly spread across the city. Upon receiving information, the police arrived at the scene and took the four accused into custody. Bisalpur Station House Officer confirmed that a case had been registered based on the victim’s complaint and that an investigation was underway.
Why it is Hate Crime ?
This case has been placed in the 'undecided' database as further verification is required to determine whether the attack on the Hindu family was motivated by religious bias or other factors. The assault on the family occurred during Eid and Navratri, which adds a communal dimension. However, there is no conclusive evidence yet to establish whether the attack was specifically targeted at the victims due to their religious identity or if it stemmed from a personal dispute or local tensions. Until further evidence emerges, confirming religious hostility as the primary motive, the case will remain in the 'undecided' category. If the ongoing police investigation uncovers statements or actions from the accused indicating religious bias, it will be reclassified as a hate crime.
