Hindu woman lured by Muslim man under pretext of 'curing diseases', thereafter raped, blackmailed and converted to Islam

Case Summary
In the Kucheel area of Kishangarh, Rajasthan, a married Hindu woman was lured, raped, blackmailed, and forced to convert to Islam by a Muslim man named Sajid. According to media reports, Sajid deceived the woman into visiting a nearby mosque under the false pretext of 'curing her illness'. He then took her to his aunt's farmhouse, where he drugged her into unconsciousness and then raped her. After the assault, he captured obscene pictures and videos of the woman, using them to blackmail her into converting to Islam. The accused also forcibly tattooed his name on her hand, subjecting her to severe mental and social distress. The traumatised victim, accompanied by members of the Yadav community, approached the Madanganj police station and filed a complaint against the accused. The incident sparked outrage within the community, with members demanding a fair investigation and the strictest possible punishment for the perpetrator. Following the victim’s complaint, District Superintendent of Police Vandita Rana directed the formation of multiple teams to investigate the case. Within a few hours, the police successfully arrested the accused, Sajid.
Why it is Hate Crime ?
This case has been added to the tracker under the prime category of- Predatory proselytisation. Under this, the sub-category selected is- Harassment, threats, coercion for conversion. Harassment covers a wide range of behaviours of an offensive nature. It is commonly understood as behaviour that demeans, humiliates, and intimidates a person, including threats and coercion. Harassment and threats, in this case, find their root on discriminatory grounds which has the effect of nullifying a person’s rights or infringing upon his freedom to exercise his right specifically owing to the victim’s religious identity. Verbal and physical threats and psychological or physical harassment are often used against Hindu victims because they choose to practice their professed religion. Religious harassment also includes forced and involuntary conversions by harassment, threats or coercion. Coercion includes intimidatory tactics like force-feeding a Hindu victim beef to convert to another religion, forceful circumcision etc. In several cases documented, non-Hindu perpetrators or those who harbour specific animosity towards Hinduism, harass victims simply based on their religious identity. Such cases often also include harassment to ensure the Hindu victim abandons his/her professed religion and adopts the religion of the perpetrator. Such cases where Hindu victims are harassed to convert to the perpetrator’s religion are rooted in animosity towards the victim’s religious identity and are therefore documented as religiously motivated hate crimes. The Muslim accused, Sajid, did not merely target the victim for sexual exploitation but also attempted to forcibly alter her religious identity through blackmail and psychological coercion. The fact that he used deception—bringing her to a mosque under false pretences—before drugging and assaulting her indicates a premeditated strategy. His actions of capturing explicit photos and videos, followed by blackmail to coerce her into religious conversion, further expose the predatory nature of the crime. Additionally, the forcible tattooing of his name on her hand signifies an attempt to mark her as his possession, a form of psychological subjugation meant to break her resistance and enforce submission. In this case, the underlying motivation of predatory proselytisation, driven by animosity towards the victim's professed faith, was evident. The perpetrators used deceit and violence to pressure the girl into converting, with the central aim of separating her from her Hindu identity. Given that religion was the primary motivation, this case has been classified as a hate crime.
