Cow smugglers throw cattle from moving truck during police encounter, three injured in shootout

Case Summary
An encounter took place between cow smugglers and the CIA team in Nuh, Haryana, resulting in three smugglers being injured by police gunfire. The accused were shot in the legs and admitted to the hospital, while three others managed to escape from the scene. The police seized two illegal firearms, eleven cartridges, a knife, and a Tata 407 vehicle from their possession. A case was registered against six accused at the Sadar Tauru police station. According to CIA Tauru in-charge Sub-Inspector Mahendra Singh, the police received intelligence that a group of cow smugglers associated with the Advani gang, including Shahid alias Advani, Waris, Arman, Sabbir, Rafiq, and Ramzan, were engaged in cow smuggling using illegal weapons. The information indicated that they were transporting cattle in a Tata 407 vehicle, taking an unpaved route near the railway line. Acting on this tip-off, two police teams were dispatched to intercept them. As the police attempted to stop the smugglers, the latter tried to evade capture by throwing cattle from the moving vehicle and pelting stones at the officers. During the pursuit, the vehicle got stuck in the mud. The police initially fired warning shots in the air, but the smugglers retaliated by firing directly at the officers. In self-defence, the police fired at the smugglers' legs, leading to the injury and subsequent arrest of three individuals, while three others, including the gang leader Shahid alias Advani, managed to escape.
Why it is Hate Crime ?
The cow is considered sacred in the Hindu religion. Often, cows are slaughtered by non-Hindu perpetrators as a mark of insult to the Hindu faith. There have been several documented cases throughout history where cow slaughter is used as a method to insult the Hindu faith, convert Hindus (by force-feeding beef) and desecrate temples. In all cases of cow slaughter, there is a suspicion of religious animosity against Hindus working as a motivating factor, however, in the absence of any concrete indication, this case is being categorised as Undecided. If more details emerge, it would be added to the Hate Crime Database.
