Case Summary

In Hussaini Nagar, Kota, a 42-year-old Hindu woman named Sumitra and her 17-year-old nephew, Arvind, were brutally stabbed by a Muslim man named Mohammad Aamir Pathan, alias Shibu. Sumitra died as a result of the attack, while her nephew Arvind sustained serious injuries. According to media reports, Sumitra’s husband had already passed away. She worked as a sweeper and cook at a local school to support her family. On the night of the attack, Sumitra and Arvind were sleeping on the verandah, while Sumitra’s son, Jitendra, and his wife were sleeping in another room. The attacker entered the home through a window and stabbed both Sumitra and Arvind before fleeing the scene. Jitendra, the son of the deceased, recounted the incident and stated, "It was around 2:00 to 2:30 in the morning. Aamir Pathan, alias Shibu, entered our house with a knife in an angry mood. As soon as he came in, he first attacked my cousin, Arvind, with a knife to his neck. My mother (Sumitra) woke up hearing the noise. When she intervened, the attacker left Arvind and then attacked my mother with the knife before fleeing the scene. Aamir Pathan had a family feud with us." Jitendra explained that, at the time of the incident, he and his wife were sleeping in their room. When he heard his mother screaming, he rushed out and found both his mother and Arvind lying in a pool of blood. Sumitra had knife wounds to her chest, and Arvind had been stabbed in the neck. The injured Arvind was admitted to MBS Hospital for treatment. While Sumitra's dead body was shifted to the mortuary. The police were notified, and an investigation was immediately launched. The police eventually managed to arrest the accused, who had fled after committing the crime.

Why it is Hate Crime ?

This case has been added to the tracker due to the brutal murder of a Hindu woman, Sumitra, and the attempted murder of her nephew, Arvind, by a Muslim man named Mohammad Aamir Pathan, also known as Shibu, in Hussaini Nagar, Kota, Rajasthan. While the motive has been officially cited as a “personal feud,” the nature, context, and severity of the crime warrant deeper scrutiny. There is a well-documented precedent where hostility towards the Hindu community plays a significant role in similar violent incidents. These acts are rarely isolated but frequently stem from entrenched religious intolerance and animosity, fitting into a broader pattern of anti-Hindu hatred. However, since there are currently no explicit indicators of religious motivation in this case, nor has the victim’s family pointed to such a motive, the case remains classified as ‘Undecided’ in the database. Should further evidence emerge confirming that the violence was religiously motivated, the case will be reclassified accordingly within the hate crime tracker.
