Minor Hindu boy kidnapped by Muslim group in Hyderabad, Telangana
Case Summary
A 2-year-old Hindu boy was kidnapped by four Muslims in Hyderabad from the roadside when the boy's mother was in an intoxicated state. The accused have been identified as Shaik Amer, Abdul Salman, Majida Begum, and Mohammedi Begum. The Hyderabad Police put out an X (formerly Twitter) post on their official handle. In that they stated that the Hindu woman named Bandela Devi, along with her son Prem Kumar, aged 2 years, came to Hyderabad to seek a livelihood. She came to Hyderabad to meet her sister Kumari, but she lost her mobile phone. Due to this, she was not able to make any contact with her. She started staying on footpaths at CBS, Gowliguda, Hyderabad. On 15th February 2025, she fell into a deep sleep under intoxication, and when she woke up, she noticed that her son was kidnapped. She went and filed a police complaint. The police registered a complaint and started to investigate the case. They checked the CCTV footage and managed to trace the vehicle of the accused. Following this, the police arrested all four Muslim accused. According to the police, the accused were passing by the area where the Hindu woman was lying down in an intoxicated state. They noticed a small baby boy crying next to the woman. Following this, they went and kidnapped the Hindu boy with the intent to sell him or make him beg.
Why it is Hate Crime ?
In this case, there is a strong possibility that the minor Hindu boy was targeted by the Muslim perpetrators due to deep-seated religious animosity. Hindus, particularly minors, are especially vulnerable to targeted attacks such as murder, assault, or even kidnapping by those harbouring deep-rooted hostility towards the Hindu community. One could argue that the perpetrators might have found it easier to target a Muslim child, yet they deliberately chose a Hindu child. This choice suggests a potential religious motivation behind the crime. However, it is also possible that the crime was one of opportunity, rather than being driven by religious animosity. As there is currently no clear evidence of a religious motive, this case is being placed in the 'Undecided' database. Should further information emerge that clearly demonstrates a religious motivation behind the crime, the case will be reclassified accordingly and included in the hate crime database.
